Ah-nold Blocks Water Efficiency Standards For Washing Machines
SACRAMENTO, California — "Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's freeze on government regulations has delayed rules mandating water-efficient washing machines that would save the water-short state billions of gallons annually.

The California Energy Commission took the regulations off its meeting agenda this week because the Schwarzenegger administration had not approved the rules, said Valerie Hall, an agency director.

A 2002 law called for the rules to be adopted by Dec. 31, 2003. Schwarzenegger's executive order delayed those and other rules because he wanted state agencies to evaluate the impact of new regulations on business.

EDIT

Schwarzenegger's office did not respond to calls for comment.
