Half of new homes must have solar by 2020 (San Luis Obispo) Council rules

By 2020 more than half of the new single family homes built in San Luis Obispo must have solar power ability, the City Council decided Tuesday.

The Council made the decision as it began the grueling process of updating and combing policies on open space, and energy and resource conservation. Unable to finish reviewing policy changes in a single meeting, Council members opted to continue the discussion during their March 21 meeting.

1. If this were commercially feasible, I'm sure that 100% of the homes
would have it. Have they ironed out the kinks yet? What is the new development in South Africa? The key is, they need to have a system that can rejuice a backup battery, as well as work even on overcast days. You do those two things and we can kiss petrol goodbye.

2. And meanwhile, in Las Vegas (with an average 320 days of sun)
the covenant communities are suing people for installing passive solar on their roofs (it SO ugly. Depresses property values . . .)

sigh.
