More and more stores defying plastic bag law - SA
Clothing retailers have followed Mr Price's lead this week in handing out free plastic bags to customers.

At a meeting held in Kirstenbosch last week between all major retailers, plastic manufacturers, officials of the labour department and government clothing retailers voiced their concerns that they were no longer on "a level playing field" since Mr Price was refusing to charge customers for bags.

When the Cape Times visited Pep Stores, Fashion Express, Edgars and Truworths in the city centre on Tuesday, bags were issued at no extra cost despite posters and till slips saying they had to be sold following government legislation. A number of items were bought, but none of the till slips included an item for the bags.

Taiwan has a plastic bag law which is 100% enforced. All store Taiwanese or foreign charge you for a bag. It's really working well. People stick the merchandise in their pocket or bring the one bag they previous bought back. It's a nice feeling.
