Tokyo Power Company Announces Plan to Reduce Oil by Half, Gas by 15%.
Tepco has announced plans to increase its nuclear power generation by 61% over the next decade, due to lower running costs for nuclear. It will reduce its use of oil by more than half, and reduce gas use by 14% in the same period.
Bloomberg, in Asian Power 21/9/06.

The Tokyo Power Company is also known as TEPCO.

It has some very nice graphics in a presentation on Japanese (and world) energy production in a presentation it recently released: http://www.tepco.co.jp/en/press/corp-com/presen/data/e_market.pdf

The graphics on page 29 show pretty clearly what countries around the world are doing for energy. Japan has the least coal dependency among major states in Asia. Japan does burn a lot of oil for power generation, and would like to avoid this reliance in the future.
