REC Solar Completes PV System on Social Security Administration Offices (CA)
http://www.solarbuzz.com/News/NewsNAPR705.htm

System integrator, REC Solar, in association with LAM Development, has unveiled of one of the largest solar electricity systems in Torrance, California, at the Social Security Administration Offices located on 22600 Crenshaw Blvd.

REC Solar recently installed an 87 kilowatt system on the building, which is expected to offset roughly 60 percent of the electricity consumed. This should translate to over $20,000.00 in annual savings the first year alone, savings that will continue to grow as electricity prices increase.

The system uses 528, 165-watt lead solder-free panels from the Photovoltaic Division of Mitsubishi Electric & Electronics USA, Inc.

"We're pleased to incorporate the latest technology into our building," said Gerald Lam, of LAM Development. "As electricity prices continue to rise, it is important that we look for ways to control costs. The fact that we can save money by using a renewable source of energy is an added bonus."

1. Here's a review of the solar panels they used.
Cost per panel is approximately $800 US each.

2. Went to a conference on bioenergy in W. Texas recently. The use of
solar was discussed but downplayed as not viable because of the large initial cost. Wind and biodiesel were the main topics. Especially since the largest windfarm in the world is now located near Sweetwater, Texas. When do you think solar will really be mainstream for homes. I saw a film from the 50's about the wonders solar would provide us all in the future but that was 50 years ago and we are still using solar in such small amounts that a story like this one makes headlines. Energy independence is the only way to provide America with a secure future. When is that going to happen?

3. You mean to tell me the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT installed solar on
a facility without being forced in a lawsuit to do so????????

Good thing the local folks just went ahead and did it. If BushCo had got wind of the project I'm sure they would have cancelled it.
