Inhofe's Environmental Role Challenged
http://www.lasvegassun.com/sunbin/stories/bw-cong/2006/nov/17/111706249.html

WASHINGTON (AP) - After losing the chairmanship of the Senate committee that oversees environmental issues, Sen. James Inhofe, R-Okla., might also lose standing as the panel's senior Republican member.

Sen. John Warner, R-Va., said Friday he'll ask fellow GOP senators to elect him as the top GOP member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. With Democrats taking over control of the Senate and House, Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., will become the committee's chairwoman in January.

"As the senior Republican on the Senate EPW committee, I intend to submit my name for election as the ranking minority member of that panel," Warner said. He has been serving as chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee and intends to remain on that panel as the second-ranking Republican member.

Inhofe signaled he'll fight Warner for the environment role.

1. I wonder how long it will take to undo the damage...
caused by a cretin like Inhofe actually chairing the Senate environmental committee. Good god, it's embarrassing to think that he ever chaired such a committee.

3. It might get interesting either way.
Inhofe would become the biggest laughing stock if he retains the position. I almost wish he'd win just for the shear pleasure of viewing the inevitable poltical cartoons. But, I guess I should get real here.

John Warner might be a moderate force, which would be highly desireable.

It is my opinion that global warming is going to be a much more important issue in the next election cycle. The climate scientists are saying some very scary things. These are people who are used to carefully hedging their words. Publishing in referreed journals tends to moderates ones views. As one versed in science, I can see climate is likely to be the top issue, eventually. The sooner we see that, the better.

We've had hideous droughts in the Midwest this year and there is undoubtedly more and worse things in store if we don't take action. What kind of disaster will it take before people open their eyes to this?

Let's hope that Gore runs and wins in 2008.

4. He'll FIGHT for his position...hah!
Yeah, riiight.

Anybody with half a brain, including those who went along with the program through intimidation or avarice, will know that ignorant asshole has no business being anywhere close to anything to do with environment.

Conserving the environment is a conservative thing to do! And every progressive/liberal I know is a conservative at heart-a real conservative!

Don't just blow your money like you have a hole in your pocket; you are gonna have to buy gas to get home on. Don't burn your barn down before you have built a new one .
Liberal and conservative are not polar opposites.

The only thing I can think of that Inhofe might run would be the incinerator in a 1957 city dump.
