Oil is the answer to our energy crisis as killing Iraqi's is to the war on terror, not. |

I worked in a gas station way back in high school back in the mid-60's and the worry of running out of oil was then as it is now. Sometimes I wonder if maybe it is a tool the oil companys use to help convince us it is ok to keep on robbing us. With a coordinated effort led by the government we could be weaned from foreign oil as sure as I am here today. I believe we have the wherewithall to do anything we as a group of people set our minds to do all we have to do is work as a team. I have been hearing about how we are going to run out of oil for all my being aware days and that is a bunch of them. What I didn't hear much was what we were going to do to stop that before we ran completely out. 40 plus years I have been aware of this and hardly any advances made in alternate fuels, Oh the technology is being developed each and every day to help in that but it is always put back on the back burners, you know the ones that don't work. We need a manhattan type project, working on that very thing and we need it now, heck the whole world needs it.

1. I grew up (part-time) on a farm in the 70's. We had 3 tractors. One of them was electric. |
|
granted, it would only run a half-a-day on a charge when under full use, however it worked well for our purposes.
We were moving towards alternate fuel supplies then, but the oil companies put the kibosh on that by buying up all the patents and then sitting on them. That's the reason I think you don't see the alternate-fuel trend really kicking in: Big Oil is doing everything it can to stop it.
Just my two cents.

3. 4th Generation nuclear fusion power is the long term answer |
|
...immediate answer would be 3rd generational thorium high temperature gas cooled nuclear which is far more efficient and safer than current fission reactors. All we need is a commitment like the JFK lunar landing project of the 1960s <links> http://www.nuc.berkeley.edu/thyd/ne161/ychuan/HTGR.htmlhttp://www.iter.org/a/index_nav_1.htmhttp://www.larouchepub.com/eiw/public/2006/2006_40-49/2006-42/pdf/54_642_torch.pdf
