Biodiesel plant coming to Quincy.
http://www.khqa.com/news/news_story.aspx?id=25235

The plant will be built in the South Quincy bottoms and will make about 30 million gallons of fuel each year.

1. Are there outlets for the fuel and lots of vehicles that run on biodiesel
Edited on Sat Jan-13-07 07:16 PM by efhmc
or will most of the fuel be sent out of the area. I went to a bioenergy conference a few months ago and was delighted to hear of the many plants springing up (and that they were not part of the huge oil companies). Many or most of the wind generating farms are part of big, big business, who get massive tax breaks.

When is the individual going to get some big tax breaks for using alternative fuel?

2. Don't know about IL but the Missouri Farmers Association sells biodiesel..
at it's gas stations. The federal government has a website that tells yuo where E85 and biodiesel are sold nationwide. I think it's the EPA website.

4. I think the obvious starting place to build biodiesel demand is on the nations farms.

Farmers could buy locally produced bio-diesel and fuel all their equipment with it to the great advantage of the environment. And those farmers raising feed lot corn for ethanol would be significantly reducing the GHG profile of ethanol at the same time.

3. IF you are a farmer and have quite a few head of cattle you can use an anaerobic digester to produce

methane which can then be used to generate electricity - for your own use. Not a tax break, but something you can do for yourself - if you are a farmer.

Co-generation and Energy Independence -

Anaerobic digesters produce methane which can be captured for supplying energy (heat, electricity) for the operation, thereby achieving substantial cost recovery. With the increasing privatization of power generation utilities, the "net cost" of power delivered to the farm is rapidly increasing, and energy independence for the farmer is rapidly becoming an attractive option. Often the delivered cost of electrical power will be at least double the original generating costs. The decision to co-generate electricity should primarily be driven by the savings for meeting the farm's power requirements, rather than based on potential sales of excess power back to the grid, if allowed. Net metering laws are now starting to be implemented in numerous American jurisdictions, which may further improve the economics.

5. We have a cow/calf operation and the animals are spread out on about
6000+ acres of cactus and mesquite. Not sure how we could gather that manure and use it in any kind of productive way. I do like the idea but we do not have contained animals. They are rotated through large pastures.
