Peak Oil in Greater Detail
Can you argue with this?? I hope you are able to read the whole article and the comments are good too..

Kuwait is now declining, but at a modest rate of perhaps 4% or 5% per year. The recently democratically elected parliament is advocating major production cuts to make the remaining oil “last 100 years”. “Oil in the ground is better than dollars in a bank”.

2. Aha. Exports declining faster than production....
Rings a bell. Almost as if I read predictions of that recently.

3. The Oil Drum has really hit its stride.

From general-consumption articles like this to the highly technical Ghawar smörgåsbord, they have become the web's prime PO source. IMO it all happened when they got over their free-speech squeamishness and banned a number of very disruptive trolls. Since then they have been going from strength to strength.

4. 4% annual decline = 50% drop in about 18 years
Eighteen years seems like a long time, especially to the younger folks, but I'm not feeling too old, and 1989 still only seems like recent history for me.

I am quite concerned that with such a sudden end to the Age of Oil, the economic shock will be severe. If we had a responsive, "people-before-profits" economic system, this would not be such a terrible event. But with so much of our economy conducted on inexpensive oil -- essentially all transportation -- it will have a multiplier effect.

But most of us here already know that. The second problem is that not too many other people do.

--p!
(How the heck did he get that 18-year figure?)

6. A great read, but
I wouldn't necessarily give this to a family member as a primer on peak oil. My guess is, this guy has had previous conversations with his brother on the subject, and sent this to supply the supporting data.

A lot of valuable information put together for someone familiar with the subject, though.

9. The boy was not just right...
the boy who cried wolf DIED at the end.

So the moral of the story is twofold.

1. don't tell lies or people might not believe you.
2. when people cry wolf, it's so damn serious go and have a look anyway or people die.
