Last week, a plan to put turbines in the Penobscot River west of Verona Island became the fourth of 10 proposed projects for Maine's coastal bays and rivers to receive a preliminary permit from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
Two of the four projects are in the Piscataqua River and one is in a cove in Eastport.
"I expect the rest to all be issued within the next month or so," said Dana Murch, who reviews hydropower projects for the Maine Department of Environmental Protection. "Most of these, or all of them, will at least move forward into the next phase."
