Is Iran Next? Forget the facts
Friday, August 26, 2005
SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER EDITORIAL BOARD

Is the Bush administration the sort to let the facts get in the way of a good ol' fashioned war/international snit fit? Heck no.

Which is why we're worried sick about its response to the International Atomic Energy Agency's report on Iran's nuclear program.

The IAEA reports that traces of enriched uranium found in Iran originated from contaminated equipment imported from Pakistan. That confirms what Iran has said all along -- that it did not produce weapons-grade uranium. Iran has also maintained that centrifuge parts purchased from Pakistan years ago are for use in a nuclear energy plant, not for weapons production.

White House spokesman Sean McCormack said the U.S. remains concerned over Iran's possible dealings with "clandestine nuclear procurement networks." Oh, brother. <snip>
