Europeans stay cool to Bush

BRUSSELS President George W. Bush has failed to win warmer European support for the United States despite his recent high-profile efforts to repair relations strained by the war in Iraq, and an increasing number of both Europeans and Americans feel they should work less closely together on security and diplomatic issues, according to a major new poll.

The widening divergence in attitudes toward trans-Atlantic relations is revealed in a survey of 11,000 people in the United States and 10 European countries to be published Wednesday by the German Marshall Fund of the United States and Compagnia di San Paolo, an Italian research organization.

The poll, conducted between May 30 and June 17, shows a growing wish among Americans for the European Union to play a stronger role in world politics, but lingering disapproval among Europeans of U.S. policy. <snip>

A large majority of Europeans - around three-quarters – want the EU to become a superpower like the United States, a desire shared increasingly by Americans: 47 percent of Americans said they wanted an EU superpower, compared with 41 percent last year. <snip>

their tawdry wet dreams of becoming a superpower will NEVER bear fruit.

Maybe fruit flies...

You can NOT become a superpower by offshoring your infrastructure (work & energy needs).

Or haven't they realized that yet?

Good? Bad? Leave it to history. And those fucking red states. But it's changed forever. And I'm not talking the Middle East here...I'm talking about us -your friends - in the West.
