"New Google software that lets users see aerial images of city streets, baseball fields and even Moscow's Red Square has some
officials wondering whether freely available satellite images could help terrorists plot attacks.

Google Earth allows users to receive point-to-point directions, mapping their way from the best pizza parlor in Chicago to the
Hoover Dam by using the longitude and latitude grid tool."

1. Oh my God.. the nerve!

Like Google is the *first* company to provide global positioning device software.. I've heard that globes and maps also allow people to measure the distance from point a to point b using latitude and longitude.. they're obviously tools of the terrorists.

Frankly, if the terrorists are that good at planning attacks using images that are about three years old, then I'd say we have a bigger problem on our hands.

2. oh they need to fucking grow up

if a terrorist wants to bomb your favorite pizza parlor there are literally hundreds of mapping tools and software tools that will do the trick.

Furthermore, they're going to drive the route first anyway - nobody is going to rely on 5 year old satellite imagery.

Finally, if it's a public building or place of reknown, it's been mapped out, blueprinted, colorized, dried, fried, fluffed and folded, and Google with its out of date elevations should be the very last thing they need to worry about.

Hey scaredy cat - you can zoom in on U.S. battleships and aircraft carriers in various domestic and foreign locations. DoD has scrubbed ship info from the decks so you can't see if it's the Carla V or the Enterprise, but you can make out the class of carrier from the position and shape of the island.

Guess what. You can buy a kit with as much detail from your favorite hobby store.
