New Delhi - Orthodox Muslim women in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh are up in arms over a federal election commission order banning them from voting without showing their face to the election officers, a report said on Wednesday.

The Zee News television channel reported that Muslim women staged demonstrations in many areas over the order which requires them to lift their veils to identify themselves before voting in the state legislative assembly election scheduled for December.

Election commission officials say the order was issued following earlier instances of men dressed in veils going to vote as women.

The channel said while some Muslim women were amenable to the order many balk at showing their faces.

I wonder if their husbands made them go protest? If they did it of their own decisions then you have to respect their feelings. Just think how much money and time they save by not using make-up!

I saw a report on CNN about 5 months back. A famous Arab woman who cam e to the U.S. and lives in the U.S. About 26 years old and 'successful'. The host asked her about oppression of women in the Arab world. She said, 'oppresion'? 'In America I can't even go outside with out putting on 10 different kinds of creams and make-ups on. I have to wear nylons, high-heeled shoes and I can't let my weight get to high or my customers won't meet me or purchase from me. Talk about oppression!'

and slide it into a hole in the burkha to identify their face. that way they get to 2nd class citizens as they are forced to be, yet they still get to vote. Everybody wins!
