911 Dems wimp out to Fox attack on "treasonous" "get data" procedure
Edited on Thu Nov-06-03 01:00 PM by papau
The Hill notes that the NO BACKBONE DEMOCRATIC SENATORS feel that Fox (!!??) has put them on the defensive with the cries of treason over the memo on procedures to get data on 911 that the Bush administration is hiding because it would show them to be incompetent (and Fox has Zell’s help as he calls a procedure memo just this side of treason)

http://www.thehill.com/news/110603/leak.aspx

The Hill Notes some Democratic nice-making, writing that over the course of less than 24 hours, what Democrats had viewed as an effective line of criticism against the administration became dramatically blunted and their air of indignation had turned to one of conciliation." Leaked memo causes furor Democrats’ Iraq probe is set back as GOP attacks By Alexander Bolton -Senate Democrats were forced on the defensive yesterday after Republicans obtained a leaked memorandum outlining an opposition strategy for criticizing the administration’s use of intelligence prior to the invasion of Iraq. The contents of the memo, first reported late Tuesday by conservative radio and Fox News Channel commentator Sean Hannity, prompted harsh condemnations by Republicans, including members of the Intelligence Committee. It also prompted calls from both sides of the aisle for further investigation. Republicans demanded scrutiny of whether Senate rules had been violated by the drafting of the partisan memo, while Democrats demanded a probe of how the document fell into Republican hands.

As the GOP blusters to hide the embarrassing 911 information, saying that asking for such information is “ an orchestrated effort by Democrats at a time of war to improperly use an intelligence investigation as a weapon against President Bush,”( said Sen. Jon Kyl (Ariz.), chairman of the Republican Policy Committee about a memo drafted by Democratic staff on the Intelligence Committee and not circulated or approved by Vice Chairman John Rockefeller (D-W.Va.).), Sen. Rockefeller said … “It was an internal memo, a draft. At some point, the committee and the senate are going to have to explore the chain of events surrounding this draft memo since it raises serious questions about whether the majority is obtaining unauthorized access to private internal materials of the minority.”

1. "I am fed up"
by this stupid crap. I would like for one Democratic Senator to tell the other side to go to hell and take your fake patriotism with you because you don't scare me. I live for that day. When this happens you will see a change in this country for the better.

6. Well we'll have to see if the Intelligence agencies have any backbone
or if they're totally cowed by the Repubican party. The Democrats can't do this alone. If they don't have allies outside the Party they'll get beat like a red-headed stepchild every time.

7. I don't see any reason for the Democrats to retreat.
On the contrary. When you take into account that today the Republicans eliminated their "earmarked" budget money; when you take into account that the Republicans are gerrymandering them out of districts; and when you take into account that Bush has little support from Americans to continue this war, there is no better move than to put all the cards on the table and push forward.

What the Americans want from the Democrats is valid opposition to get a real investigation into the Bush Administration's activities. Of course it's partisan. No Republican will have the balls to do what has to be done. Make it partisan, make it personal, and make this country a real two-party system again.

The Democrats don't have anything to lose anymore because Republicans never meant to compromise with them. The Republican agenda is for Republicans only. It's up to the Democrats to represent every Democrat, every Independant and non-political person in this country. Balls to the wall, boys and gals!
