Museveni's brother to face trial for graft - Uganda
Kampala - Uganda's cabinet has called for the president's brother to be prosecuted for his part in the loss of funds in a botched government deal to buy military helicopters, a senior official said on Thursday.

The cabinet was acting on proposals put forward last year by a judicial commission inquiry into a 1997 deal, in which the army used a local middleman to buy two helicopters from Belarus that were not airworthy.

At the time of the deal, Uganda was engaged in neighbouring Congo's many-sided war, while fighting its own battle at home against Lord's Resistance Army rebels.

The judicial inquiry recommended that several officials, including President Yoweri Museveni's brother Lieutenant General Salim Saleh and former presidential candidate Kizza Besigye, be tried for corruption.
