Former officials indicted for fraud totaling NT$250m
The Taipei District Prosecutors' Office indicted two former National Security Bureau (國安局) accountants yesterday on charges of embezzling nearly NT$250 million and recommended stiff prison sentences for both suspects.

Hsu Ping-chiang (徐炳強), formerly the NSB's chief accountant who has been held in custody since July, could face up to 15 years in prison if found guilty, while Liu Kuan-chun (劉冠軍), the former NSB chief cashier and currently a fugitive, may be sentenced to 12 years in jail.

"As a guardian of the National Treasury, he (Hsu) failed to fulfill his obligation by embezzling funds and transferring them to private organizations, which resulted in critical damage to the National Treasury," said Chen Hung-ta (陳宏達), spokesman for the Taipei District Prosecutors' Office.
