Mogadishu - Seven people were killed and scores wounded in an artillery barrage between rival fighters in the Somali capital Mogadishu on Thursday, witnesses and medical sources said.
"At least four civilians and three militia died in the fighting and their bodies are currently being kept by rival fighters," said a medical officer in Mogadishu, who asked not to be named.
The fighting pits militiamen loyal to Somali warlords Musa Sudi Yalahow and those of Bashir Raghe, who is also allied to another main Mogadishu warlord Mohamed Omar Habeb.
The clashes, in which long-range mortar artillery and vehicle mounted anti-tank weapons were used, flared up early on Thursday after Yalahow ordered an airstrip and harbour under the control of his rival closed.
