Arab View Of U.S. Worsens Since 2002: Poll
Edited on Sun Jul-25-04 05:18 AM by Lithos
WASHINGTON (Agencies)-- A new opinion poll says Arab attitudes towards the United States have deteriorated significantly over the last two years.

The poll, conducted in June with a sample base of 3,300 Arabs in Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates, found U.S. foreign policy was primarily to be blamed.

"Why do they hate us? It's the policy, stupid," said James Zogby, president of the Arab-American Institute. "We have seen an unfortunate evolution since 2002," said pollster John Zogby, who is James Zogby's brother. "They still detest policy but the numbers of Arabs and Muslims who view American features and people favorably are certainly down from what it was in 2002." Dim View

On Edit:

Also:

WASHINGTON: If US President George W. Bush thinks his "war on terror" is winning Arab hearts and minds, he should think about conducting it much differently than he has over the past two years.

Beginning with changing his policies.

That is the unavoidable conclusion of the latest two in a series of major surveys of public opinion in five Arab countries - all US allies in the "war on terror" - released here on Friday by the University of Maryland (UMD), the Arab American Institute (AAI) and Zogby International.

2. I'd be surprised if that view is confined to those Arab states...
With a few exceptions, I think the negative attitudes towards the US would be pretty common world-wide. There was a thing on called 'What The World Thinks Of America' a fair while back, and there were some pretty negative views of the US and Americans coming across from that...

While I was searching for those results, I found this from Sa'eb Erekat on US/Arab relations...
