Luanda - Angola's deputy foreign minister, a key figure in the country's liberation struggle against former colonial ruler Portugal, committed suicide at the weekend, police said on Monday.
"Our preliminary investigations show that Francisco Romao committed suicide on Sunday, by jumping off the eighth floor (of Luanda's Hotel Presidente)," police spokesperson Carmo Neto told Reuters.
Neto said police were carrying out further investigations.
"He was an important ministry official who was coordinating political and economic cooperation between Angola and Europe and also our bilateral cooperation.
