The July Surprise

I suppose this is a dupe since DU people are always on top of things, but just in case:

The New Republic reported (http://www.tnr.com/doc.mhtml?i=20040719&s=aaj071904) that the Bush admin. was pressuring Pakistan to get a high-value Al Qaeda target (HVT) by the end of July.

Well, they came through. Since it ain't Osama, it reminds me of the Russian attempt to steal the thunder of Apollo 11 with their own moon probe. (It didn't work.) But, they caught an Al Qaeda guy who was involved in the African operations and the news of it was released just a few hours before Kerry's acceptance speech.

We gotta expect the dirtiest campaign since 1972, maybe ever.

Oh, hell, OF COURSE ever.

The information was posted a while back.

From watching the CBS Evening News last night, it became clear that it isn't going to work for *. The capture was hardly mentioned, and they noted that the guy had actually been captured a week ago. Sibel Edmonds got as much time as the story of *'s July surprise.

I think, finally, finally, the news outlets (or at least, CBS) are sick of being used and are finding some spine.
