Another Day, Another Murder-Suicide
This time in Alabama - Wayne

Two dead in murder-suicide

Muscle Shoals man shoots wife, himself

MUSCLE SHOALS –
Gunshots shattered the quiet calm of a local neighborhood Tuesday evening when a man shot his estranged wife before taking his own life, police said.

Neighbors said Charles Hester, 60, 2106 Gusmus Ave., chased his wife, June Hester, through a neighbor's yard about 5:45 p.m. then shot her in the back of the head at close range. She died 2½ hours later at Shoals Hospital while in surgery.

Neighbors said Hester then held the gun to his temple and took his own life. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffield.

1. Shhhhhhhhh.....
Don't you realize that Democrats are pro-RKBA? Zach Wamp and a bunch of shitheads from the NRA say so.

Sounds to me like the only thing wrong with this fella is that he didn't have an assault rifle AND a concealed weapons permit. He seems like just the sort of voter we should be reaching out to.....sure that "not breathing anymore" is worrisome, but on the bright side he'll have the same mental acuity as the rest of the RKBA crowd.

2. This is getting old, CO
What would any law have done to prevent this? What could have been done to prevent this?

Really, I'm asking you seriously how you would have prevented this from happening? And I'm not talking nationally, I'm talking this person.

What would you have done as God-emporer of the USA done to have prevented Charles Hester from doing this?

Put a blank where the word "guns" was, and replace it from one in the list below.

"As long as there are people in this country who are obsessed with the concept of owning ____, other people will die. Period."

1) Automobiles
2) Kitchen Knives
3) Attack dogs
4) Baseball bats

.... not everything can be blamed on him, nor will every social ill be cured by his removal from office. Violence is a big problem in this country - solving it will involve dealing with the root causes of that violence, as well as controlling the distribution of guns to reduce the liklihood that shootings will occur as much as humanly possible.

And again, you will note that it is only gun control laws that are supposed to prevent crime. Bank robbery laws don't stop all bank robberies, but you don't hear the American Bankers Association pushing for their repeal.

But we could point out that there was damn little to KEEP this goon from getting his hands on a gun, thanks to the RKBA crowd and the corrupt gun industry.

Funny, you keep dodging that question everytime I raise it, too.

When the RKBA propaganda saying the Democrats wanted guns all over the place was posted last week, who were the "Democrats" proving it?

"says James Jay Baker, legislative director of the National Rifle Association."
"says Rep. Bob Barr, R-Ga., who was just elected to a second 3-year term on the NRA board."
"In a letter written to Baker in May, Ashcroft said "
"Republican pollster Bill McInturff asks."

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=118&topic_id=8562&mesg_id=8601&page=

And who got singled out posted in the new story "proving this" today? GOP cementhead Zach Wamp and ANOTHER asswipe from the NRA.

http://www.timesfreepress.com/2000/dec/14dec00/webtngoreloss.html

"you've really opened my eyes as to the person I do not want to be."
Then I hope you're happy siding with AshKKKroft and Grover Norquist.

WHO IS WELCOME ON DEMOCRATIC UNDERGROUND, AND WHO IS NOT

We welcome Democrats of all stripes, along with other progressives who will work with us to achieve our shared goals.

This is a "big tent" message board. We welcome a wide range of progressive opinion. You will likely encounter many points of view here that you disagree with.

We ban conservative disruptors who are opposed to the broad goals of this website. If you think overall that George W. Bush is doing a swell job, or if you wish to see Republicans win, or if you are generally supportive of conservative ideals, please do not register to post, as you will likely be banned.

If you have been banned from Democratic Underground, you are not permitted to log on again using a different username. Previously banned members will be immediately banned, regardless of behavior.

People who repeatedly and willfully break the rules, or who generally engage in rude, antisocial behavior, will be banned. It doesn't matter if you are a progressive or a long-term member of this board.

Your absolutely right, the same as "gun control" laws will not stop crime, so why revoke the rights of the honest citizen.

this has to be one of the all time most stupid comparisons I've ever seen repeatedly posted.

Bank robbery laws don't stop all bank robberies, so the banks hire ARMED GUARDS to stop them!!!! They don't ask for more laws, they ARM themselves, not with cops, but with civilian armed guards!!!!!!

Yea, the RKBA crowd and the corrupt gun industry want criminals to have guns.

Could you sound any more desperate?

Do you expect any rational person to believe that the guy down the street who hunts wants criminals armed?

You see, this is the type of ignorant statement that persuaded 90% of traditional union Democrat voters in Harris County to vote for Bush in 2000. (Thanks anti-RKBA crowd)

and I'll enjoy continuing to do so...

"In 1996, the annual average pay in free states was $29,100, compared with $24,600 in right-to-work states - an 18 percent difference. Right-to-work states have lower "union density" (the percentage of workers who belong to unions) - 7.6 percent, compared with 16.8 percent in free states.
Right-to-work states included in this study are Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nebraska, Nevada, North Carolina, North Dakota, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia and Wyoming."

http://www.boilermakers.org/3-Benefits/rtw.html

"Texas, another Right-To-Work state, finishes 16th in average annual wage yet its union workforce percentage is ranked well behind Oklahoma at 49th ."

www.state.ok.us/~okdol/press/state%20comparison%20letter.pdf

In other words, only one state has a lower percentage of union workers.....and Texas workers get screwed accordingly.
Good thing you're obsessed with whether Democrats are going to grab your guns instead of REAL issues, eh?

http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5478,7277458%255E662,00.html

A MAN was shot by police yesterday after he stabbed his own young children and their grandfather to death.

As their mother watched from a police car a detective called out to the man to stop his frenzied attack.
But he continued to stab one of the children and was shot twice in the arm before he collapsed.

The 72-year-old grandfather, four-year-old girl and her 20-month-old brother all died from their wounds at the rural property on Burdekin Rd, Wilberforce, in New South Wales.

*snip*

Ambulance officers tried to save the 30-year-old father at the Wilberforce property and discovered what were believed to be self-inflicted knife wounds to the chest.

He later died in Hawkesbury Hospital.

31. Latest Developments
Events before murder-suicide still a mystery

By Jason Harris
Staff Writer

MUSCLE SHOALS –
Police are still trying to unravel the events that led to a murder-suicide in a quiet neighborhood Tuesday night.

There is no dispute about the events that took place in Mac and Donna Sloan's front yard at the intersection of Gusmus and Richton avenues just before 6 p.m. Witnesses said Charles Melvin Hester, 60, 2106 Gusmus Ave., chased his ex-wife, 57-year-old June Hester, across the Sloans' yard, pulled a gun from his pants and shot her in the back of the head. Then, after being confronted by police, he turned the gun on himself.

June Hester died about 8:30 p.m. after surgery at Shoals Hospital in Muscle Shoals. Charles Hester was dead on arrival at Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffield.

Muscle Shoals police Lt. Sieg Mueller said he has talked to friends and family of Charles and June Hester, and no one appears to know why the couple were traveling together nor what they argued about in the minutes before the shooting.
