Anti- types refuse to acknowledge a few simple truths about guns

"Those who hammer their guns into plows will plow for those who do not."

~ Thomas Jefferson

Just a simple REFRESHER COURSE about gun owners and what we know to be true.

1. An armed man is a citizen. An unarmed man is a subject.

2. A gun in the hand is better than a cop on the phone.

3. Colt: The original point and click interface.

4. Gun control is not about guns; it's about control.

5. If guns are outlawed, can we use swords?

6. If guns cause crime, then pencils cause misspelled words.

7. Free men do not ask permission to bear arms.

8. If you don't know your rights, you don't have any.

9. Those who trade liberty for security have neither.

10. The United States Constitution (c)1791. All Rights Reserved.

11. What part of "shall not be infringed" do you not understand?

12. The Second Amendment is in place in case the politicians ignore the others.

13. 64,999,987 firearms owners killed no one yesterday.

14. Guns only have two enemies; rust and politicians.

15. Know guns, know peace, know safety. No guns, no peace, no safety.

16. You don't shoot to kill; you shoot to stay alive.

17. 911: Government sponsored Dial-a-Prayer.

18. Assault is a behavior, not a device.

19. Criminals love gun control; it makes their jobs safer.

20. If guns cause crime, then matches cause arson.

21. Only a government that is afraid of its citizens tries to control them.

22. You have only the rights you are willing to fight for.

23. Enforce the gun control laws we ALREADY have; don't make more.

24. When you remove the people's right to bear arms, you create slaves.

25. The American Revolution would never have happened with gun control.

3. I'm now 66 years old - got a gun on my 7th birthday
a single shot .410 break action shotgun. I now have 2 safes full of firearms. I've been hearing almost for at least the past 40 years how "gun grabbers' were gonna take my guns away. In spite of all this scare bullshit it's never happened.

If you enjoy owning guns, then enjoy them. I do.

Stop being so scared that somebody is going to try to take them away.

6. Complacency is the first tactical error that can
ultimately end in death. Not just the death of yourself but also the death of your rights.

I am not afraid when I am making an arrest that I will be overpowered and killed. I am, however, acutely aware of the potential threat so I am ready should "they" try anything.

I enjoy owning guns and I am not "scared". I am, however, wiser than some who choose the path of apathy.

17. There are bigger problems, Tularetom...
The constant and corrosive impact of the "antis" is to heavily damage the Democratic Party by causing (in the estimate of one Bill Clinton) its candidates to lose elections on this issue.

Further, the strongest impact of gun control is felt in the poor inner cities of the U.S. I cannot say for sure whether or not the citizens of Chicago, N.Y., D.C., S.F., etc., will suffer less crime as a community if they had the right to keep and bear arms, but individually they might better protect themselves. Right now, they don't have that option because of this rather big remnant of Jim Crow flapping around their brows.

And all this attention and condemnation directed to Democratic Party liberals distracts other citizens from the threat to 2A posed by a more powerful group: the far right. Ben Ezra has written on this subject, but I would only point out HR 1167 (carried by McCarthy D-NY) which would keep those placed on the "No fly" list (without due process) would also be placed on the "No buy" list of NICS (again, without due process). (A counterpart is being carried by Lautenberg, D-NJ, in the Senate.) The upshot? Alberto Gonzalez wanted this legislation. For now, these bills are bottled up. But one can plainly see that the opponents of 2A are on the far-right as well and don't mind working with some libs when it suits them.

13. Lucky you don't live here in Chicago
The Chicago Police unit called Chicago Area Gun Enforcment (CAGE) makes the rounds every now and then to confiscate rifles or shotguns not currently registered with the police. Handguns are all banned for 25 years. Possession of a handgun or an "assault weapon" (defined as any rifle that holds more than 10 rounds), like my old Marlin Model 60 or a 65 year old M-1 Carbine for instance, constitutes a felony in Cook County or the City of Chicago.

So here in Illinois, if we don't do something about it, Daley will spread his version of gun control across the state and you safes would be emptied pretty quick.

FWIW, your single shot break action (Ivers Johnson?) would still be legal, as long as you paid to register it every year and never missed a year or were late with the registration papers.

11. I have two little girls who are alive today because of guns
Edited on Wed Feb-27-08 01:18 AM by sabre73
So you can hate guns all you want. Does not really matter. The fact is I would trade your life and opinions for the safety of my daughters every time.

I guess you are right. I am "overcompensating" for something. I am overcompensating for all of the lowlife creeps out there who get their "smaller dicks" off by victimizing innocent people and small children.

I may be a moron in your book but We (my family) are still alive because of my moron tenancies and you are one "bad guy" safer in this world.

please continue to enjoy your "bigger dick" madam.

23. Because of guns?
Was this cousin dealing guns legally or illegally and was killed in a hold up or "bad deal"?

Did an overloaded gun safe topple over on him/her?

Did your cousin get in an argument about gun control and was stabbed to death?

Or did some shit bag shoot your cousin with a gun?

Your statement is very unclear, and might lead to gross speculation.

this person was engaged in some illegal activity and a gun was legally used in self defense. I can certainly understand someone wanting to ban all legal guns after that happened to a relative.

26. I am sorry for your loss
I really am, but you must remember, your cousin is not dead because of guns. He is dead because someone made the choice to kill him. Period. That the person who killed him used a gun as the means to effect his death is incidental. He could have been just as easily run over, stabbed, hanged, pushed out a window, etc. and be just as dead.

If he killed himself, that doesn't change the fact that a human being made the conscious choice to kill him.

If he died due to an accident, then it was his or someone else's choice to disregard safety procedures.

Either way - the gun is not to blame.

30. That statement begs the question.
Did the firearm in question go off on it's own, was it mishandled, or was it by a person using it wrongfully?

14. "Big Gun ... Small Dick" Wow, I've never ever heard that before!
"The bigger the gun the smaller the dick"

Do people really say that behind my back?

I'm doing a terrible job of compensating. My .38 only has a 1 and 1/2 inch barrel. I need to go out and buy a bigger gun right away because someone that knows absolutely nothing about the subject, except how they feel based on .... how they feel, said I was compensating.

I better hurry and get into therapy too.

Thanks for that insight. Now go back to General Discussion where sophistry and bumper sticker logic can carry the day.

16. No one is trying to convert you. RKBA like all rights is an individual right. Whether you choose to
keep and bear arms, exercise free speech, join others peaceably to assemble, or to petition the Government for a redress of grievances is your personal decision.

The fundamental requirement is that the federal government protect natural, inherent, inalienable/unalienable rights enumerated in the Bill of Rights or unenumerated but protected by the Ninth Amendment.

Those rights protect each individual against the tyranny of a simple majority which is 50% of the votes plus one that would occur with a pure democratic government.

28. Why is it OK for women to use such language and labels?
Really, if a male poster were to use such terms as airhead, bimbo or even clotheshorse, the post would be deleted (and I would have no problem with that). However female posters are allowed to use the most insulting and impolite putdowns. Why is this?

Moving on, guys dont listen to such blather. In a survival situation the woman will 9 times out of 10 look to the guy to handle the situation -- its pure instinct. The guy will very quickly and accurately guage the upper body strength of his opponent, his response may or may not be sufficient. A gun is a great equalizer.
