* TX: A 10-year-old boy, Chance Lightner, was accidentally shot and killed by his older brother. The gun discharged, hitting the boy in the side.
* MA: Robert F. Paonessa, 74, shot and killed his son, Robert A. Paonessa, 37, then called 911 to report a "tragedy" before turning the gun on himself.
* NY: A Calverton man, Melvin Quires, 64, shot his live-in girlfriend, Rena Laborde, 49, in the chest and then shot himself in the head with a rifle. The couple had a history of arguing; last summer, police responded to a domestic dispute call at the home, but no charges were filed.
* UT: A mother, Charity VanLeeuwen, struggles to deal with the murder of her 1-year-old daughter. Police say the child was killed by her own father, Peter Perez, in a murder-suicide that left four people dead inside a South Salt Lake home. VanLeeuwen said her own relationship with Perez was abusive.
* IN: A former police officer, Shannon W. McComas, won't face new charges in a fatal New Year's Day shooting outside an Indianapolis bar, prosecutors said this week.
* WA: Two women were wounded in a drive-by shooting in south Seattle. Witnesses told reporters the suspects had been kicked out of a send-off party for a man headed to jail.
* IL: Northern Illinois University plans to honor the five students killed in a campus shooting this year when the university holds its commencement ceremony on Saturday. On Feb. 14th, 2008, a former NIU student, Steven Kazmierczak, used two handguns and a shotgun killing 5 students and wounding 16 others.
* VT: A turkey hunter, Ralph Townsend, 44, of Hartland unintentionally shot two others in a hunting accident with his shotgun. One hunter suffered minor wounds, the other needed surgery.
* MI: A man surrendered to police after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend and held her and some of their kids hostage. As she ran from the house, the suspect yelled at her that if she brought the police back he would kill her and the children.
* FL: Levert Stewart, 26, opened fire on his wife and children in their car at Jacksonville Beach and is now in police custody. Stewart and his wife got into a fight while driving. His wife, Levonta, got shot three time and the bullets missed the couple's three children.
