HR 1022 is 'our' version of the PATRIOT Act |
|
Edited on Sat Nov-08-08 03:53 AM by friendly_iconoclast
Sad to see the same mindset that gave the country the unconstitutional Patriot Act hard at work in our own party.
Step 1: Claim the crime/terrorism threat is so dire that the Second/Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Amendment(s) need to be violated..
Step 2: Find enough politicians either cynical, craven or stupid enough to go along and sell the resulting legislation to the more credulous of their constituents.
Step 3: Claim the moral high ground: "You are enabling terrorists" = "You are enabling murderers" Provide heart-rending and/or frightening examples of what will be 'prevented'
Step 4: Exaggerate the threat, and use it to trample the rights of law-abiding Americans

3. ive been saying this for a long time |
|
the same people who cry "we should not give up our rights because of terrorism" are the first ones to push an assault weapons ban for fear of terrorism
either way you look at it....both acts are unconstitutional and not to mention unnecessary. They are symbolic measures- the patriot act has already passed but we should work hard to make sure an AWB doesnt happen.
