Irony in the news. Someone lost thier FOID card...
"Blagojevich has been released on his own recognaissance. He had to give up his passport, and his firearm owner ID card."

I wonder what he thinks of the Illinois FOID system at this point...

Say...Didn't he speak out against the Heller decision?

1. I kind of enjoyed that detail.
They can't take away his seat as Governor but at least they took away something!

3. What the hell is Blago doing with a FOID card?
This guy has never seen a gun control issue that he didn't support. He has 24/7 State Police armed security for him and his family. He lives in gun free Chicago. Why would he have a FOID card?

Maybe it's a boilerplate warning from the judge on any case where they post a bond?

One of my favorite Blago stories is when he dedicated the big new multi million $ downstate shooting sports center and the following week supported an Illinois AWB that would have banned competitors from bringing the rifles they would use into the state if it had passed.

5. same reasons........
--that Senator Charles Schumer has a concealed carry permit in New York City;

--that Senator Thomas Dodd (author of the Gun Control Act of 1968) had a Colt automatic pistol fall out of his pocket on the floor of the Senate;

--that Carl Rowan. an unabashed proponent of "a complete and universal federal ban" on handguns used an illegally possessed pistol to shoot a young man who was trespassing in his Washington, DC swimming pool.

They are all part of long and sordid string of handgun hypocrites - celebrity advocates of domestic disarmament who insist on their own right to keep and bear.

7. "This guy has never seen a gun control issue that he didn't support."
Is there a correlation between the number of crooked politicians in a city and how hard it is for the law abiding public to legally own a handgun? Think Chicago & DC

10. He's all for gun ownership---he just wants it limited to Important People like himself
and their bodyguards, and perhaps the country-club set.

9. They assume that anyone who has been issued a FOID may have one or more guns
Edited on Fri Dec-12-08 07:33 AM by slackmaster
Once they pull your FOID card, you are in deep shit if you get caught witha firearm. If you have a concealed-weapons permit, they track make, model, and serial number of the specific handgun(s) you are licensed to carry.

Interesting sentence on the Brady Campaign's State Gun Laws site:

The state does not automatically check or revoke FOID cards from people who are convicted or otherwise fall into a prohibited class after obtaining the FOID card.

They must have disarmed Blagojevich just because he is a Democrat. :sarcasm:

13. There is no concealed-weapons permit in Illinois

Except for retired police under the Federal Law.

Whenever a firearm is sold in Illinois, the seller must maintain a record of the purchaser for 10 years under state law.

If a gun is traced, it can be followed from seller to purchaser, but as far as I know, there is no record of what a particular individual owns.

You also get in trouble if you have a few rounds of ammo laying around, once your FOID card is pulled.

11. Oh Irony thy name is Blago!
Records of gun purchases are supposed to be retained by dealers, via a copy of the 4473 form basically forever, but destroyed by the states within 30 or 60 days I believe.

They discovered that at Blago's direction the state police were retaining all the records of all firearm purchase checks, creating a Defacto registration. So now, thanks to his own orders, they have the record of anything he has ever purchased I guess. It could be interesting because it was his father-in-law Richard Mel that tried to change the law so he could re-register his extensive gun collection earlier this year.

Technically a FOID card just means you have been "pre-approved" by the Illinois State Police to purchase a gun or ammunition. But it's like a belt plus suspenders, because you still have the standard NICS check that includes the Illinois State Police again and no concealed carry, except of course for the 50 Chicago "aldercritters" and others blessed by "Hizzoner da Mare" Daley.

I'd pay good money to see state troopers (who have no great love for the man or his wife for several reasons) hauling a few guns out of his House on camera.

8. Nature called and forced me out of bed at 4:00 AM, now I have a good laugh to start my Friday
Thanks beevul. I will cherish this moment of Schadenfreude and irony.

Say...Didn't he speak out against the Heller decision?

Yes, he's one of the biggest gun ban enthusiasts in the USA. He'd probably call himself an advocate of local control. I call him an enemy of basic civil rights.

12. Blagojevich has a small army of bodyguards...
The reports also said the governor had 12 bodyguards, costing nearly $23,000 in hotel bills, in Boston during the Democratic National Convention, and 10 bodyguards during a later trip to California.

Blagojevich reduced the size of his security detail by 25 percent, which he said makes it comparable to units in states of similar size. His office has declined to say how many people are on the detail, citing security concerns. On out-of-state travel, the governor will ask for security from the state being visited and limit Illinois State Police staffing to essential functions.

The order requires the security detail to undergo training by the U.S. Secret Service. It also requires the director of the Illinois State Police to issue a code of conduct within 90 days that addresses job behavior and professionalism.
