More killing machines. Why don't I feel safer?

Are you serious? A "killing" machine? It is too big of a cartridge to be used on a regular basis and not much different than what is available already. Do you really think that a criminal will shell out extra dollars to buy a large revolver? I bet the ammo is pricey as well.

Your fear should not dictate what others may or may not own.

Unless I was going hiking in Brown bear country. I have heard of a guy who was a championship pistol shooter that can't shoot any longer due to the damage a .454 casual(sp) caused him. No thanks!

That should be .45 Colt, according to my friends in SASS. Before the introduction of the .45 ACP, the only .45 was the .45 Colt. People added the "Long" to differentiate between the two cartridges.

I've shot a .454 Casull Ruger Super Redhawk, and even with such a heavy revolver, it wasn't pleasant. So I'll pass on the S&W .500 Magnum, and stick with the tried and true .44Magnum revolver.

Of course, if I was worried about polar bears, then the .500 Magnum might make sense.

As to whether criminals will us it? Give me a break. It's too big and too expensive to be a weapon of choice for criminals. It's not like large-barreled revolvers or .50AE Desert Eagles are the weapons of choice now.
