Congratulations. I'm a good way into my "Easy Pay" Life membership -- at least $25/quarter until it's paid up. I couldn't justify the $750 all at once. After all, I have the Ohioans for Concealed Carry and Gun Owners of America memberships to keep up too. ;)

15. The perquisites
You don't get discount airline tickets, but there are rental car, hotel, moving company, and retail store benefits. There is also some minimal insurance coverage included.

It's alot like the extra perqs you get from joining AAA (the American Automobile Association).

20. Do you have a link to any study that proves your point?
Anecdotal evidence or pointing to one race does not help. I have always been pro-gun, but anti-NRA for what I have been told. I was under the impression that as a whole they are neutral toward Dems who are pro-gun-rights, but go out of their way to support Republicans.

It does make sense for them to stick to the single issue, but I am wary of that claim.

You will see that Republicans got a hell of a lot more money from the NRA than Democrats did, but to try and deny that the NRA has provided support to Democrats is a bold lie to attempt to make. It seems clear that if you support their cause you can get money, if you don't then you won't get any money. Makes sense to me.

37. Dean has a much-ballyhooed "A" rating from the NRA....
Their support of Democratic candidates is directly based upon that candidate's stance on the Second Amendment.

If a candidate is luke-warm on that issue, they will not push for them. If the candidate is pro-Second Amendment, they'll push for them.

Locally, there was an election in 2002 where the Democratic Incumbent was pretty pro-Second Amendment (he voted for the '94 AW ban when his arm was twisted by the Dem. Leadership, but overall supported the Second Amendment) who was running against an extremely pro-Second Amendment Republican. Because the Incumbent was the Incumbent and was generally pro-Second Amendment, they supported the Democrat over the Republican (and they even gave the Dem some money), and many people locally credit this support with his retaining his seat.

In another state-wide election that same cycle, the Republican candidate was somewhat acceptable, but so was the Democrat. Neither were incumbents, and the NRA basically stayed out of the race, and endorsed neither candidate. It was a close election, and had they "gone to bat" for the Republican, he probably would have won.

18. It tends to support the GOP because Reps are generally more pro-gun rights
In a race where the Democratic candidate is more pro-RKBA the NRA usually choses the Democrat.

If two candidates are perceived as equal on the gun issues the NRA either goes with the GOP candidate or the incumbent.

21. So if it comes to the Dem and Rep being equal RKBA they tend to side
with the GOP? That ruins their credibility for me. I could not support any organization that supports GOP over Dem--even if slightly.
I am curious about this and will see what else I can learn. Thanks for the info.

38. Nope...
their policy is that if both candidates are equal on Second Amendment grounds, they side with the incumbent regardless of their political affiliation.

I've seen this first-hand, when they sided with a pro-gun Democrat over a rabidly pro-gun Republican because the Democrat was the incumbent.

If the race was Dean vs. Bush, and Dean was the incumbent, they'd side with Dean.

Democrat Bart Stupak had the NRA's highest rating, until the NRA thought that they could help defeat him by supporting a Republican who ran against Stupak. All of the sudden Stupak was a target of the usual NRA ire.

and the Republican candidate an A rating in the last election in Alabama. In addition, the NRA gave every Democratic candidate that supported RKBA a hign rating and every Republican that did not support RKBA including no responsem, a low rating.

You're giving MrB a run for his money now.

If the NRA usually supports Republicans, it is because the national Democratic Party and many state Democratic parties are on the wrong side of the 2nd Amendment.
