I hate republicans, but its hard not to agree with them when it comes to guns. Especially in Cali |
|
I wanted a certain model and I can't get it altered the way I want becuz California wants the gun to be identical to the one they approved for sale. A gun is a gun, why the hell do we have a list of guns we can buy. That makes no sense at all.

3. Now why would California wnat to make any money? |
|
It's not like CA is out of money, ya know. :sarcasm:
Am personally fleeing CA in the wake of the first round of teacher layoffs. There are 20-30+ more teacher job eradications about to happen before school starts in August.
Things are so FUBAR here, it's scary if the nation follows this trend.

4. The problem with Repubs and guns... |
|
...is that they come off as paranoid, Turner-diary-worshipping, the-conservative-way-or-we're-raiding-a-rebellion, xenophobic idiots.
They have a simplistic view of some kind of spontanious "revolution" because they have guns. Or something.
Factually, they have things pretty much accurate. But their arguments and politics are off the deep end.
I can understand part of it... if a person was continually challenged as to why they wore a seat belt, that person would be defensive to the point of sounding like they had a crippling fear of driving and drivers.
But only part of it.

5. That is true and why I ended up here. |
|
Edited on Wed Jun-10-09 02:30 AM by Caliman73
I got tired of the racism, jingoism, and paranoia displayed on traditional firearms sites which are inhabited by conservatives. I wanted a place where people's politics were similar to mine on most issues and they owned and supported firearms ownership. Republicans tend to believe that there is nothing wrong with the US except for the fact the white conservative christian males are having to share power with others. They live a politics of fear and aggression. However, some of our liberal brethren also live a life of irrational fear and have way too much faith that the government has our best interests in mind.
I live in California and I understand what the OP is saying about the stupid laws here. They make very little sense legislators seem to always want to put more on the books, like the stupid 50 round limit that is being proposed.

9. So... why are these people still running around free? |
|
I thought Huey Newton was gonna round em all up and put them in re-education camps and teach them all science and other Commie ideas. Surly the re-education camps don't have wifi so how come these people are still posting their paranoia on the internet tubes? Could it be...Satan?

I found DU shortly after I started getting political. I think it was the "Top 10" list. And I found that arguing gun politics was great fun because you really had to do the research on your own to be credible.

11. Just a for the record.... |

Blocking an entire group into a stereotype such as all republicans etc. is no better then somebody saying ALL Democrats are left wing/coastal/socialists who have no idea how the real world works and that they ALL want to take your guns away.
The fact is there are fanatics on both sides of the spectrum and they have driven a pretty large wedge between the rest of us.
God I wish we could stop being RED or BLUE and start being Americans again. The right has done some pretty good raping of our rights and our country.........the left has done and is doing its share of damage as well.
We really need to figure out as voters how to get our elected officials back on track no matter which side of the fence they are on. Guns should be a non issue, gay rights should be a non issue, abortion should be a non issue. We should be focusing on who can best run the country to make us diverse and strong economically, increase education, figure out the best way to deal with health care and generally focus on how to raise folks up from poverty/lower qualities of life without simply providing hand outs. If we focused on these things a whole lot of other problems would start to fix themselves.
Sorry I just get a bit upset with stereotypes because I feel that on the political level they hurt the voters and allowed our elected representatives to abuse there power greatly on both sides.
Specific to the gun issue if the Democratic party could go an administration or two leaving the issue either completely alone or better yet loosening laws they would likely get a pretty large group of voters back from the right. My personal take on things is most regular folks don't care about gay rights (as in don't see the big deal not that they shouldn't have them), and think abortion should be a personal choice. Think about getting those folks back over to the left.
I just don't think you can win people over by simply dismissing them as a group. Pubs, fly over country, Dems, etc. You need to win folks over one person at a time respecting there beliefs even if you don't agree with them. Something about honey vs. vinegar.
All that said there are some lunatics out there.

+1 cslinger. Good call.
Stereotyping is a tough thing to combat. In theory, our brains work so fast and so well because the neurons categorize and connect things with other things- if we can classify any bit of data into a group, and associate it with other bits of data we think are similar, then we can access that pool of data faster and spend processing time somewhere else. It helps with pattern recognition which, in days when everyone was, legitimately, facing physically dangerous situations all the time (I'm talking historical on an evolutionary scale here, not the 50's or the wild wild west); recognizing patterns was adaptive because the ones who did it well tended to stay alive longer.
The problem that we currently face is that a person cannot be reduced to a single piece of data, so any attempt to group a person with others we think are similar is inherently bound to fail.
I also look at it like this- stereotyping is closing off possibilities. Closing off possibilities is closing your mind. And nobody ever learned anything by closing their mind.

13. Agreed completely, and it's why I can't give them any credence. |
|
It's the same thing that I run into with some people on DU. I might agree with them completely about an issue, but some here have gotten into that habit of total paranoia, defensiveness, and assuming that anyone who isn't them is an enemy.

12. What is so right wing about RKBA, the 2nd Amendment, The Constitution???? |
|
I am very pro gun I am very pro Constitution I am very pro equal rights and protections for all (Gay, Straight, male, female, black, white etc.) I am very pro privacy I am anti drug war I am pro choice
So even though I might not personally believe in some of the above for myself (I am pro life for ME and don't necessarily understand homosexuality) I damn sure believe in others rights and protections to do as they choose and be with whom they want without being penalized / limited in their rights for it.
So even though I freely admit to leaning right on a great many things I don't see what The BILL of RIGHTS (all of them not the Chinese menu version) has to do with the right wing.
