1. I like where he has no problem with friend to friend and relative to relat
gun sales.

Thats some common sense.

IIRC Edwards also has no problem with that.

7. How About It, Dad?

Come on, dazzle all us fellow Democrats with your exhaustive knowledge of Himmler. If you're going to compare a Democratic presidential candidate to one of the most evil products of the 20th century, favor us with the quote; this is at least the second time you've slimed this Himmler thing past us, and it's getting old really fast. Put up, or do yourself and the rest of us a huge favor and shut up......

"Germans who wish to use firearms should join the SS or the SA."

Please feel free to google it.

9. Here you go...plus a few more
Link

"Germans who wish to use firearms should join the SS or the SA. Ordinary citizens don't need guns, as their having guns doesn't serve the State."
- Heinrich Himmler

"All military type firearms are to be handed in immediately. . . The SS, SA, and Stahlhelm give every respectable German man the opportunity of campaigning with them. Therefore anyone who does not belong to one of the above named organizations and who unjustifiably nevertheless keeps his weapon. . . must be regarded as an enemy of the national government."
- SA oberfuhrer of Bad Tolz, March, 1933

"The House passage of our bill is a victory for this country! Common sense wins out. I'm just so thrilled and excited. The sale of guns must stop. Halfway measures are not enough."
- Sarah Brady

That's because the NAZIs invented the assault weapon late in World War II.

The disarmament of the civilian population began in the 1930's.

12. According to gunners there is no such thing as an assault weapon
at least that's what I've heard on this forum a zillion times. Now this weapon is invented by no less than the Nazis? That is rich.

21. Not really....
that's like somebody in the 1940's saying they want to ban phones, and somebody today saying they want to ban cellphones. One didn't exist when the first comments were made, but it's the same idea.

BTW, you might want to talk to Carin. She apparently thinks all guns are assault weapons. If all guns are assault weapons, then wanting to ban assault weapons is the same as wanting to ban all guns, isn't it? It's just a matter of the definition...

25. "there is no such thing as an assault weapon"
Actually, there is no such thing as a semi-automatic assault weapon. The Germans introduced the first sturmgewehr, the "assault rifle," a fully automatic light infantry rifle. So, the anti-gunners have now given us the term "assault weapon," hoping to confuse the masses into thinking we're dealing with fully automatic "assault rifles," such as the M-16 and variants of the AK-47.

14. As I Suspected.........
....the sentiment expressed by General Clark differs wildly from that of Himmler's. The notion that Clark might want all firearms useage restricted to the armed forces is bizarre and unfounded. And whether you intend to vote for him or not, it is a gross insult to a Democratic presidential candidate. Why should we honest-to-God Democrats consider easing up on assault weapons, when assault weapon advocates like you resort to this kind of despicable behavior?

16. Ah, I see.
Well, it's good to know that you're the final arbiter of who is an "honest-to-God democrat".

Clark's statement is basically "people who want to play with assault weapons should join the army."

Himmler's statement was basically "people who want to play with guns should join the army."

Given that there was no such thing as an "assault weapon" when Himmler made his statement, I think it's quite fair to say that Clark paraphrased Himmler. Remember....Clark is supposed to be this genius scholar type, so odds are EXCELLENT that he was exposed to Himmler's comment. To find him paraphrasing Himmler on the issue of gun control is disconcerting, to say the least, ESPECIALLY considering that Clark had to come out and make an announcement just 2 weeks before he declared his candidacy to state that he was a Democrat. Let me ask you this: If there was currently a Democratic incumbent, do you think Clark would be sitting the 2004 election cycle out, or do you think he'd be running as a Republican? He's a DINO to the core. His affiliation with the Democratic Party is one of convenience. And if he was running as a Republican, you'd be hammering him on the Himmler paraphrase too.

:puke: It's no accident that Dean's last ConFlag flap was about guns.

20. Your right
"the sentiment expressed by General Clark differs wildly from that of Himmler's"

Ok, ill give you that.

But this:
"People who like assault weapons they should join the United States Army, we have them."(pro AW ban context noted)

Doesn't seem much different than this:
"All military type firearms are to be handed in immediately. . . The SS, SA, and Stahlhelm give every respectable German man the opportunity of campaigning with them. Therefore anyone who does not belong to one of the above named organizations and who unjustifiably nevertheless keeps his weapon. . . must be regarded as an enemy of the national government."
- SA oberfuhrer of Bad Tolz, March, 1933

Can you honestly dispute this?

22. A Followup Question
....for all you advanced thinkers on this thread who decided the best way to promote your lust for assault weapons among Democrats was a pathetic attempt to compare a prominent Democratic presidential candidate to Heinrich Himmler: what are you going to do if you're faced with a Clark/Bush race next year?

Extra credit for answers that are high on honesty, low on bullshit, and as free as possible from the effects of mind-altering substances.....

pretty simple. I never bought his "I'm a Democrat" statement, especially after his "If they'd have taken my calls, I'd be a Republican" bit.
