Looks like Iraqi police getting Glock 9mms instead of Berettas |
|
Rumour going around says so. Says there might be a shortage of Glocks.
I would agree with getting Glocks if true. Easier to maintain in Iraq's conditions, durable and cheaper than the Beretta.
We need to pull out of Iraq soon but we also need to equip the Iraqis with good equipment.
What say you?

1. I hear they are both excellent weapons |
|
I'd prefer the slightly heavier weapon so the mass would absorb more of the recoil, so I'd probably go Beretta

Personally I wouldnt care if Glock goes out of business.
I'd bet more people accidently shoot themselves, or others, with them.
Plus they have that nasty Kaboom thing.

Long, heavy trigger pull....
ALso, I have a problem with barrel flip when the magazine is nearly empty. The receiver is so light when empty, there is no buffer for recoil below the path of recoil. Barrel flip tends to increase with a Glock as the magazine empties, at least that's my experience.
My favorite pistols, in terms of pure shootability are: 1) Browning Hi-Power (Is there a more naturally-pointing pistol?) 2) Sig, 229 (DA-SA) 3) Para 14-45...(if you're going to shoot the big boys, you need some weight to control the pistol)

6. The 9mm ones don't have KBs |
|
The problem occurs in the larger calibers. The G17 is a classic pistol, well-engineered for the 9mm Parabellum round. All the Glock 40s, 45s, etc. are kludgy and I wouldn't own one.

The Glock was originally designed for the 9mm Parabellum/ NATO round.
It is also offered in 9x21 for civies unlucky enough to own 9x19.
The bigger Glocks tend to have problems.

3. My question: Who's buying them? |
|
If the Iraqis are funding this pruchase, then that's just great. Glocks it is...
If the US is funding this purchase, I think that we should be equipping them with Taurus, or something cheaper, pistols. Functional and adequately reliable...

Glocks are definately better than Berettas, but I still prefer my 1911.

My gun collection has a category called "Firearms designed by John Moses Browning". I'm always looking for specimens of ones I don't yet own.

10. Get a much bigger safe |

Nice collection but ...
You need a Ma Deuce to round it all out. Mr. Browning's true masterpiece
I love gun grabbers, they are all so very subtle, like a 2 x 4 upside the head.
That gun is too big (.50 Barrett)
That gun is too small (Kel Tec P-32 or the Stinger)
That gun is too cheap (Lorcin, Davis)
That gun is too evil looking (AR015, AK clones)
That gun shoots too fast (Semi Auto "Bullet hoses")
That gun is a "sniper rifle" (any 30 cal. deer rifle)

11. Don't forget the 1919s |

Any decent MG collection should include an A4 and an A6 at a minimum.
All of JWB's mechanisms are fascinating.

Not all berettas are created equally. An american made model, such as a M9 military or other american made model, is NOT the same gun as an identical looking Italian made model. Fired one after the other , the differences make themselves pretty clear. Berettas got a bad reputation from the M9 mil issue gun. The Italian made models have been known to go past 45000 firings without a failure, with routing cleaning/oiling.
That being said, both are fine firearms. I'll take the beretta, due to haveing large hands(that and I'm no fan of plastic).
"but I still prefer my 1911."
Nothing AT ALL wrong with that.:)
