The supercitizen stole the super gun and sold it to one of common folks. What the hell was he thinking? He should have waited until next year when the ban expires. :-)

2. Sounds like the blind selling to the blind.

The cop and the purchaser BOTH missed the LEO stamp.

Looking for an LEO stamp is pretty much common practice for AW buyers (The SELLER should already know). I came within about 10 sec's of buying a Colt AR-15A3 Tactical carbine with a lower serial number at the Reno Hilton show a few years ago and would've except for the fact that the deal "seemed" a little sweet and I decided to grab a blue-book and check the serial numbers.

The 'A3's were shipping into the first week of september in '94 and they (Colt) didn't get around to putting the LEO stamp on them until a number of the LEO's had been released. They're not stamped but they ARE LEO's above a certain number. BIG difference in price too. Below the magic number in mint cond' you're looking at $3,000 worth of Colt. Above that number it ain't worth nothin' 'cause You can't legally score it.

I used to do the Redmond gunshow a few years ago and that crowd is pretty much a "Brown" gun group (Great for 700's, BAR's and model 70's). Maybe the Buyer was one of them and just didn't look for the stamp. The fact that it WAS stamped and he missed it don't bode too well for his eyesight lol

3. The NRA must really be pissed off about this
Since they're always claiming that they want existing gun laws enforced that is.
You don't suppose they were actually lying when they said that do you?

It's a pretty open and shut theft of property issue.

Again though, what really baffles me is that the guy who bought the weapon claims to have missed the LEO stamp (That he "Noticed" at a later date). When he says he "...thought I was getting a good deal..." THAT indicates he has SOME knowledge of what the gun was (Ain't alot of folks out there that'll fork out over a thousand bucks and NOT know what they're getting).

Most (Like 99.999%) of Colt AR' buyers'll flip that gun over so they can see the left side of the reciever to read the model number and name (SP-1, AR15A2, Match-Target ect). To miss (Until "later") the LAW ENFORCEMENT/ MILITARY USE ONLY stamp at the same time is hard to believe.

The LEO stamp by it's nature indicates that the gun is government property or at the very least purchased by the individual Law Enforcement Officer on a dept. letterhead for use in his official duties and to be surrendered should those duties cease.

The NRA would have about as much interest getting involved in a property marked MK-19 grenade launcher sale as this one I would think.
