Man shot, killed during Bessemer robbery attempt
A man armed with a shotgun was himself shot and killed today as he attempted to rob a bait shop, according to Bessemer police.
The incident happened about 4:15 p.m. at The Bait Shop at 729 9th St. N. in Bessemer, said Capt. Mike Roper. When the man attempted to rob the store, the owner shot and killed him, Roper said.

1. Yep. Bait shops are really safe places to rob.
Usually run by outdoors types (at least around here). Most sell ammo, many sell guns.

That's a store I'd pick to rob if I were inclined to rob something. Makes sense. Let's go after a place where the most dangerous weapon is a gaff - NOT.

4. That was in Alabama.

Fishing is prqctically a religion there.

According to SuperPages that place doesn't sell guns.

They accept all major credit cards. I guess sawed-off shotgun doesn't count as a payment option.

With a little googling, I found the name of the dead goblin. As usual, he had an extensive police record for robberies and burglaries and is a suspect in a homicide.

As usual, the family is talking about what a wonderful person he was. http://blog.al.com/spotnews/2009/11/post_199.html

Loved ones remember Dudley as a loving husband and father, a barber, and a minister who reached out to the young and elderly, his widow, Katrina Dudley, said Thursday night.

"He was a kind man. He visited people in nursing homes, he went to other churches to deliver messages to young people. A lot of people would look at how he died and only see that one side," she said.

Dudley said her friends and family believe her husband's fatal shooting was unnecessary. "It was excessive," Dudley said.

Alabama has Castle Doctrine that includes businesses and grants immunity from civil suit for valid self-defense. The Dudly widow is out of luck.
