Law abiding permit holder stops mass murder in progress in a BAR.
Shootout in Winnemucca: Three dead, two injured in early-morning gunfight

WINNEMUCCA - Three people were killed and two were injured after a man with a high-capacity, semi-automatic handgun began shooting inside a bar packed with people.

The battle occurred at Players Bar and Grill shortly before 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

Ernesto Villagomez, 30, allegedly fired multiple shots at Jose Torres, 20, and his brother, Margarito Torres, 19, of Winnemucca, both of whom were pronounced dead at the scene. Villagomez was shot and killed at the scene by a bystander.

Winnemucca Police Chief Bob Davidson confirmed the deceased brothers and the shooter were involved in a family dispute that included numerous violent confrontations going back approximately one year. He confirmed Villagomez appeared to target the Torres brothers.

The bystander was identified only as a 48-year-old Reno man with a valid permit to carry a concealed weapon. Authorities confirmed he was a U.S. Marine, but it was not clear whether he was on active duty or had finished his term of service.

3. That's what I meant.
Not only was this posted on DU when it happened, but I recall seeing this a few threads down as well. I even recall seeing it posted sinec it happened a few times too. Why post it several times? Why not just bump up the original thread where ti is discussed instead of wasting time rehashing old topics?

4. And by the same poster!
Yeah, it was. The shooting took place about a year and a half ago. The OP is so zealous with his obsession to post these so called righteous shootings that he’s forgotten(?) he’d done so before. Yeah the very same poster on 3/2/09 posted;
“CCW Permit Holder Stops Mass Murder In Progress” which at that time had taken place over a year prior and complained the event received little or no media coverage.
It’s interesting how the OP both times headlined the article “Law abiding (CCW)permit holder stops mass murder in progress in a BAR”. Nothing in the article linked confirms the permit holder stopped a mass murder in progress.
“Winnemucca Police Chief Bob Davidson confirmed the deceased brothers and the shooter were involved in a family dispute that included numerous violent confrontations going back approximately one year. He confirmed Villagomez appeared to target the Torres brothers”.

It would seem the murderer was targeting the two people he killed. To say the CCW holder stopped a mass murder in progress is a distortion at least.

5. "To say the CCW holder stopped a mass murder in progress is a distortion at least."
Given the circumstances, that statement seems to be a distortion itself.
A gunman opens fire killing two (and injuring more) in a crowded bar/restaraunt.
A CCW shooter Stops him while in the act of ambushing the bar.
I would have to say it's VERY likely that more people were spared due to the CCW-guy's actions.
However, it's entirely fruitless to debate on events that never took place.

I will say this:
I suppose the CCW holder that stopped that church shooting did not "stop a massacre" either...
I'm sure the goblin was only out for one or two particular people.
he would have went home, leaving everyone else in peace, after he was done :eyes:

10. I believe it was a colorado (?) church in the recent past.
The CCW person was a female attending the event.
She also worked as a security guard or LEO I believe.

11. I can't remember if she had a CCW or not. Stopped another mass murder anyhow, good for her.

7. Wrong again. Sorry russ not your day. Why would the shooter reload if he was done killing?

12. Wrong? About what?

It wasn’t the OP who posted previously on the same event?
The OP didn’t present both of his threads with made up headings using the words “permit holder stops mass murder in progress” when that fact isn’t known?
Your March posting linked to the Internet text of a KTVN Channel 2 News May 25, 2008 broadcast, was headlined/titled “Three Men Killed in Winnemucca Shooting on Sunday”. Now this Dec posting links to an Elko Daily Free Press May 25, 2008 article headlined/titled “Shootout in Winnemucca: Three dead, two injured in early-morning gunfight”. Neither of those headline titles has any reference to the “Permit Holder Stops Mass Murder In Progress” heading both of the threads by the OP.
The OP has made up conclusions and then headlined threads on his speculation!

No one knows what “might have happened”.
As I posted in my Post # 4
“Nothing in the article linked confirms the permit holder stopped a mass murder in progress.”

You asked; Why would the shooter reload if he was done killing?
We don’t know! Maybe he thought with a loaded weapon he could exit without being subdued?

The point is ……..we ……don’t……….. know. You speculate about what the shooter could have done and say, I’m wrong?

Please tell me, what exactly am I wrong about?

13. He was killed while reloading not while leaving.
You said he only intended to kill 2 people but he injured to others and you are positive that he was going to leave the bar without endangering another soul. LOL.

16. Not quite....
Edited on Sun Jan-03-10 10:21 PM by russ1943

I didn’t say I knew he only intended to kill 2 people.
I pointed out that the Winnemucca Police Chief Bob Davidson was quoted as saying “the deceased brothers and the shooter were involved in a family dispute that included numerous violent confrontations going back approximately one year. He confirmed the perp Villagomez, appeared to target the Torres brothers”. It also appears that at least one of the injured bystanders could be considered collateral damage rather than the object of an intentional attack.

I’m not positive about what he was going to do next, and I haven’t said that. I know better than to predict what someone will do next, especially in this scenario. The point that seems to go right over your head is that you also cannot be positive about what he was going to do next, but that hasn’t stopped you from posting numerous times that you know what he was going to do next.
You then posted that I was wrong?
No, you were wrong.
You anticipated what was going to happen next (in your numerous posts) by describing the scenario as CCW holder stopped a mass murder in progress. Now think real slowly. The shooter could have done any of a myriad of things at that point. I cannot, (and didn't) say he wouldn’t have continued to kill people, any more than you can say he would have killed anyone else!
Now I’m done.

17. Go ahead and run off but you are still wrong.
The people in the bar were still facing a deadly threat. The CCW permit holder eliminated that threat. If the killer wasn't still a threat then the shooting wouldn't have been justifiable. NOW you're done.

15. So "gun grabbers" is an okay term to use, but "gun nuts" is not?
Just want to confirm which blanket pejorative is acceptable here and which is not.

Thanks.

Personally, I don't care for either term, but I can stand people who use them, provided they're accepting of both.
