If Ed Schultz replaces Byron Dorgan, do we get another pro-RKBA Democratic Senator? |
|
Here's a little something I just discovered. Scroll down to Ed's conversation with Laura Flanders, Bill Press, and Michael Smerconish: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/30265255/ns/msnbc_tv-the_ed_show/

4. If Schultz enters the primary and wins, however... |
|
...his stance on guns could be enough to pull away centrist Republicans and independents who are tired of neo-conservatives and teabaggers.

8. That is *not* the case for a whole lot of voters, though... |

as pro-ban Third Way types have found out the hard way in several elections since 1994.

6. That doesn't help him one bit |

Found the transcript: http://newsbusters.org/blogs/brad-wilmouth/2010/01/06/msnbcs-schultz-recommends-nba-players-be-banned-gun-ownershipI say keep the guns out of the arena and the locker room if you must, but to deny a basketball player his Second Amendment rights just because he's good at playing basketball is something I can never agree with.

13. This is very peculiar and not helpful to him... |
|
Maybe it is sarcasm, but not the way to try it if you ain't good at it.
Peruse the outdoors/hunting channels and programs, and you will see an occasional sports celebrity (often still engaged in his profession) out hunting deer or ducks. Does his ban extend to these folks? If not, why not?
Speaking of deer, the aroma of a doe-in-heat must be quite similar to what gun-control advocates like: makes 'em go BUCK WILD!

7. I would imagine that that was probably said as sarcasm or hyperbole... |
|
I'm not either a Schultz fan or a detractor, but he's smarter than to think that that could actually be legal.

9. That's not how the news story presents it... |

unless he was badly, badly misquoted, that quote could hurt a lot.

News stories are famous for missing the point when it comes to offhand comments and dry humor.

11. That's very true. Sarcasm often looks literal in transcript, even when it's obvious when spoken. NT |
