Lincoln Co. Homeowner Kills Intruder
Edited on Mon Jan-25-10 09:01 AM by oneshooter
STROUD, Okla. --
A man was shot and killed as he broke into a Lincoln County woman's home, deputies said.

Billy Dean Riley, 53, of Sparks, was drunk and high on some type of opiate at the time of his death on Friday, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department.
Deputies said Riley crashed a vehicle near the home of Donna Jackson, 57, between 12:30 and 12:50 a.m. Friday. Riley went to the back door of Jackson's home nearby and started to break in.

Jackson told authorities that she picked up a shotgun and called 911.

"There's a man at my back door. He's trying to get in," she said to the dispatcher. "He's close to the door. I'm going to go ahead and get the gun out."
"She told him that she was armed and that she had called the police and that he needed to leave," said Lincoln County Sheriff Chuck Mangion.

In return, deputies said, Riley started screaming vulgarities at the homeowner. He picked up a patio table and threw it through Jackson's glass patio door.
The dispatcher told Jackson that she was advised to defend her property if she needed to.

Jackson said she fired one shot into Riley's chest when he started to enter the home.

"I shot. I shot. I'm going out front. I hit him," she told the dispatcher. "Please, dear God. I think I've killed him. Please father in heaven, please father in heaven."

1. "She told him that she was armed... ...Riley started screaming... ...picked up a patio table..."
Another clear-cut case of the presence of a gun emboldening crime.

If Ms. Jackson hadn't been wielding that shotgun, Mr. Riley surely would have apologized for being at the wrong address. Obviously he made an honest mistake. The gun escalated the situation to the point of deadly violence.

5. Another example of the 27% of B&E types who are "hyper punks"...
If surveys of convicted B & E types and home invaders are correct, he constitutes the approximately 25% who are "turned on" by the prospect of confronting someone with a gun.

These thugs are hereby anointed as HyperPunks.

Their first priority is not drugs, money or loot from theft. Their first priority is killing and maiming anyone who seeks to thwart their feral liberties.

2. Billy Dean Riley, the dead guy, had a long rap sheet.
Googling around on his name I found lots of sites that talked about his criminal history. He was a convicted felon, and was drunk and high at the same time. Booze, opiates, and anger management issues don't mix well. His problems are over now.

Ms. Jackson did what she had to do.

4. Unfortunate, perhaps, but entirely the shootee's call
Even if you're doing it out of (alcohol-induced) stupidity rather than malice, when you're engaged in breaking into someone's house, that someone cannot be reasonably expected to give you the benefit of the doubt that you don't intend harm upon the occupants of the dwelling.
