Is the IOC aware of the emboldening power of firearms ?
Having only been aware of this pshycological phenomenon for a short time , I had never really worried much about it before . And so with my new found knowledge in hand I observed the overtly militaristic biathlon event last night . Clenching the upholstery tightly with my sphincter ,I waited for one of the contestants to snap and give in to the urge to pivot on their heel and spray fire the spectators and rival competitors from the hip .

If it hasn't happened before , it's only a matter of time . I can only imagine the shattering disappointment one might feel after all the years of training only to suffer the agony of de feet and all the while having such easy access to a sniper rifle . At the minimum they should dole the cartridges out one at a time like a turkey shoot , lest it turn into one .

Come to think of it , I wasnt too impressed with the event myself , so if they dumped it for dead goat polo .....Hey ! I wouldnt complain about that at all !

Who you are or what your fantasies are, as I do not know you. You however have no reservations about spreading your speculations.

I'm glad Nostradamus is among us. May I have my palm read?

4. Apparently a lot of "law-abiding non gun owners"
have "gun owners have sniper fantasies" fantasies...

And you wonder why the gun-control lobby is in the state it's in?

6. The Biathlon would be a lot more interesting
If they were using service rifles instead of .22 race guns. You'd see some nice variations- Americans with M-14s and M-16s, Belgians with FALs, French FAMASs, German G-3s and G-36s, Spanish CETMEs, British L-85s, Russian SVDs and Czech VZs, Swiss SIG-556s, and a whole heap of AK and AR variants used by everyone who imports.

It'd be even more interesting if you opened it up to historical service arms, too. Only limitation is that it has to have been in widespread usage as a military arm.

10 rounds, 12mm, 23g (0.473", 355 grain) minié balls at 100 meters, iron sights only, loose black powder only.

Hmmm...

11.  Proper weapons for such a match
UK 1853 Enfields,.577 caliber, percussion, either 2 band or 3 band, 65gr 2fg powder with a 530gr Pritcherd bullet

USA 1861 Springfield,.58cal, percussion, 60gr 2fg powder with a 510gr Minie bullet.

Just to name a few. The UK, USA, and CSA were the major users of the early Minie rifles.

15. I may be all ate up with the BP.... but
I kinda like the idea of G3's and Brownings . Three man crews humping ammo, mount and gun , once they find all the tannerite, they go to work on the 10 20 and 30 yard clangers with their side arms ,pack it all up, and hump it on down the road . The last station would be always be done soaking wet , if there is no river to ford ,spray them with a fire hose when they scoot by .

14. That would be interesting
Presumably, you'd have to have different classes by weapon: assault rifle, semi-auto designated marksman/sniper rifle, bolt-action rifle, etc.

I think for historical service arms, the appropriate limitation might not so much "widespread usage" as that the weapon has actually been a standard-issue rifle of mountain/ski troops, e.g. the Italian Alpini, German Gebirgsjaeger, French Chasseurs Alpins, Australian Ski Corps (seriously!), US 10th Mountain Division, almost the entire armies of Norway, Sweden and Finland, etc.

12. In all seriousness...
It would be cool to see them go back to 100m, 150m and 200m instead of 50m. My guess is that the change was made to make more venues available.

17. It's a horror, isn't it? How many children have to die before the IOC gives
up it's homicidal surrogate-penis worshipping ways? None yet? That can't be right...

(Also, I will never sit on the couch at your house. :o)
