Today, Daley was asked whether he’s hoping all of the requirements put together would discourage people from buying and registering guns.
Mayor Daley today denied that he’s making Chicago gun owners jump through hoops to exercise their Second Amendment rights and expressed confidence the city’s new gun law can withstand a court challenge.

Today, Daley was asked whether he’s hoping all of the requirements put together would discourage people from buying and registering guns.
“No, no. If people want to have a handgun, they
have a handgun,” the mayor said.
But, he added, “If you go in the military, they have months and months of instruction. The Chicago Police Department has months and months of instruction to fire a handgun. Handguns are used to kill people. When you take a gun and point it at somebody, you have to kill that person in your home. … That’s why instructions are so important.”

That he has been coached to lie about his motivations--if you believe that he isn't trying to discourage handgun ownership, PM me for a lucrative deal on a toll bridge--isn't exactly shocking. But the level of ignorance he expresses on defensive gun use is shocking, even to me. Yes, I too apparently overestimated hizzzoner's intelligence. If you take a gun and point it at somebody, you have to kill that person? Really?
Do you think the whole handgun ban was a misunderstanding that could have been cleared up in a five minute conversation with one of his taxpayer financed bodyguards? It's frightening to think that a one-horse town in America is led by someone so ignorant, never mind a major city like Chicago. I still hope hizzzoner was misquoted (or grossly misspoke). I wish I could convince myself that he didn't really say or mean that.
