Daley is not trying to discourage people from owning handguns (wink, wink)
Today, Daley was asked whether he’s hoping all of the requirements put together would discourage people from buying and registering guns.

Mayor Daley today denied that he’s making Chicago gun owners jump through hoops to exercise their Second Amendment rights and expressed confidence the city’s new gun law can withstand a court challenge.

...

Today, Daley was asked whether he’s hoping all of the requirements put together would discourage people from buying and registering guns.

“No, no. If people want to have a handgun, they have a handgun,” the mayor said.

But, he added, “If you go in the military, they have months and months of instruction. The Chicago Police Department has months and months of instruction to fire a handgun. Handguns are used to kill people. When you take a gun and point it at somebody, you have to kill that person in your home. … That’s why instructions are so important.”

That Daley supports his own legal proposals is no surprise. That he has been coached to lie about his motivations--if you believe that he isn't trying to discourage handgun ownership, PM me for a lucrative deal on a toll bridge--isn't exactly shocking. But the level of ignorance he expresses on defensive gun use is shocking, even to me. Yes, I too apparently overestimated hizzzoner's intelligence. If you take a gun and point it at somebody, you have to kill that person? Really?

Do you think the whole handgun ban was a misunderstanding that could have been cleared up in a five minute conversation with one of his taxpayer financed bodyguards? It's frightening to think that a one-horse town in America is led by someone so ignorant, never mind a major city like Chicago. I still hope hizzzoner was misquoted (or grossly misspoke). I wish I could convince myself that he didn't really say or mean that.

1. Months of instruction to learn how to fire a handgun?
Really? He said that?

I learned how to fire a full-automatic 9mm Uzi in one hour at a local gun range. I had an RSO right there to make sure everything went well, that I had a workable posture, and that I could control the muzzle climb.

It doesn't take much time to learn how to fire a gun - but learning how to properly comport yourself with a handgun admittedly takes more time than an hour. But months? Seriously?

3. "You have to kill that person in your home." Really? Contrary to the facts...
Mr. Daly thinks that every use of firearm involves "killing that person."

No, most self-defense incidents involving firearms don't even involve the FIRING of a gun; sometimes, not even even brandishing one. The loud announcement that you have a gun and will use it often does the trick.

Sheesh. I thought this guy was all for ending "gun violence" and everything.

4. Daley is a fascist swine just like his father.
This has nothing to do with crime or safety. It's everything to do about controlling the people. You know, the ones he's elected to SERVE.

Democratic machines like in Mass, Maryland, Chicago and NYC are the best fundraising tools the GOP has. It's way past time we started cleaning our own house and stopped defending the indefensible. Is the Obama justice department going to sue Chicago over the deliberate attempt to defy a supreme court ruling? I think not. Just the way they let that war criminal Cheney slide.

-And people wonder how Republicans win elections....

7. Chicago PD gets "months and months" of training?
Doubt it. I'm betting it's more like forty hours or so. That includes range time. It's not at all like on TV and the movies.

I'm figuring a citizen could get the training they need for a CCW with a couple hour online course followed by a trip to the range annually, and that's excessive in my book.

Want to bet Daley sets the bar much higher than that? The rest of the state requires a FOID card and that should be sufficient for Chicago as well. And for the record I think the FOID card is dumb.

8. I learned how to properly call for fire in 15 minutes.
And demonstrated my ability to do so accurately. What took all day was the typical Army bullshit that went along W/ the training
