Another Lawsuit Filed Against New Chicago Gun Law-Shooting Ranges
Gun rights advocates have filed another lawsuit against the City of Chicago's new handgun ordinance, claiming that it violates the Second Amendment because it doesn't allow shooting ranges for the public.

The lawsuit filed on Monday, claiming that by "by banning gun ranges open to the public… under color of law," the new Responsible Gun Ownership Ordinance violates the constitutional right to keep and bear arms.

Two gun rights advocacy groups – the Second Amendment Foundation, the Illinois State Rifle Association – filed the lawsuit, along with shooting range equipment maker Action Target Inc. and three individual plaintiffs.

----

The plaintiffs in the case include Rhonda Ezell, whom the news release says has been the victim of attempted burglaries three times and has a disability that makes it difficult for her to leave the city; Joseph Brown, a World War II U.S. Army veteran; and William Hespen, a retired Chicago Police detective.

1. Seems like His Honor the Mayor just has to do it the hard way.
What a waste of time and resources.

4. It is telling that he keeps getting re-elected.
Either what they have been saying about the voting habits of dead Democrats in Chicago is true or the old saw about Mussolini "He made have been a ruthless dictator, but he made the trains run on time," applies. Nothing else make sense.

2. If the city has to allow citizens to own handguns ...
it only makes sense to allow them a convenient place to how to safely handle and shoot them.

Handguns are not easy to master, at a minimum some practice is necessary. Defensive shooting is a martial art and you don't learn judo or karate by merely buying and reading a book. If an individual is unfamiliar with their weapon and lacks confidence, an intruder in their home may realize this and instead of running away may decide to disarm the homeowner and kill or severely injure them with their own firearm. A person who has been to the range to gain familiarity with their weapon has a far better chance of survival that the individual who never had the chance to practice.

I realize that Mayor Daley opposes firearm ownership but the battle is lost. Opposing gun ranges inside of his city for public use may well cause tragedy. He may seriously believe that his quest to ban handguns is the best solution. I will grant that while I favor RKBA, many other people oppose it with good arguments. Unfortunately, the Supreme Court didn't agree with Mayor Daley's views. He may be the king of Chicago, but Chicago is still part of the United States

It takes a cold-hearted individual to fight what is obviously a lost battle and in doing so almost certainly guarantee that people will be injured or murdered because he opposed allowing his citizens to learn how to use the weapons that the Supreme Court has deemed legal. Obviously, he hopes that the criminal element in his city will be able overcome any opposition from armed citizens so that he can claim that he was right after all. His ego appears more important than the lives of the citizens of Chicago.

I sometimes wonder if he has any concern for the lives of those honest citizens who live in his city. Possibly he is so corrupt that the payoff from the criminal element clouds his decisions or if maybe criminal element has the ability to threaten him by revealing incriminating information. Chicago and Illinois are known for illegal shenanigans. Many politicians from Chicago and Illinois end up in prison.

Much of the crime in Chicago is caused by organized gangs fighting other gangs over turf. Allowing citizens to own handguns will have little effect on this activity. It will, however, save lives in the long run. Fewer home break ins of occupied homes will occur and some of those remaining home invasions will be stopped by armed home owners.

But to be effective, Chicago needs to offer the opportunity for its citizens to train and be safe with their weapons.
