Los Osos man arrested for reportedly firing a gun at seven children playing near yard

A Los Osos man is arrested for reportedly shooting a gun at seven kids who were playing near the suspect's yard Sunday afternoon.

The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Department says just before 3:00p.m. Sunday, deputies were called to the 500 block of Skyline Drive in Los Osos after a few juveniles reported they had been shot. When deputies arrived, they say the seven juveniles claimed they were playing in the vicinity of 54-year-old Dan Milligan's home when he confronted the kids and shot at them with a gun.

The kids, between the ages of 12 and 14, ran away and called authorities. When deputies arrived at Milligan's home, they say they interviewed him and conducted a search of his home. They say they found the gun believed to have been used to shoot at the kids.

12. Bingo. There are millions of Americans on medications for mental illness & half of them own guns....
Time for a change in how business is conducted IRT gun sales and ownership, IMO.

16. Can you cite exactly how many "millions" of Americans are on
medications for mental illness & the fact that 1/2 of them are gun owners?

I must have missed that report in the AJM last quarter.

are familiar. I know the guy, in passing. Angry person in general.

I know the house, too. There's a huge multi-acre vacant lot across the street from it. Kids have been playing in that lot for decades.

24. It's a pretty big area alright
I don't know how anyone (who does not own it) could think they can control who uses such a large space.

Skyline Drive, San Luis Obispo, CA

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Skyline+Drive,+San+Luis+Obispo,+CA&aq=&sll=35.307473,-120.685694&sspn=0.004071,0.00942&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Skyline+Dr,+San+Luis+Obispo,+California+93405&ll=35.305705,-120.676489&spn=0.016285,0.03768&t=h&z=15

Google Satellite view shows the open spaces extend all the way around the residential neighborhoods which is already close to the edge of town. Of course neighborhood kids are going to play there.

10. A few people are going to misuse guns, or any other tool.
That is not a reason to take those tools away from the rest of us.

11. The time for serious gun control will come after Obama's 2nd term, when he...
..can really crack down on Hi-cap magazines, ammo sales and assualt weapons.

Until then it's best we wait and hope another madman with a 30 bulletd gun doesnt
wipe out a bunch of people. It will just be more grist for the millstone around the
gun-lobbies neck, if so anyhow. They care not one wit who has to die, as long as they
can pack a gun around, like peacocks strutting thier feathers.

The NRA's time clock is ticking slowly down to ZERO, but they haven't figured that out yet.

Too bad for the gun lovers who are 100 percent responsible for this mess we are in.

17. Good luck with that.
Seeing there hasn't been one piece of firearm related legislation that has made it beyond a referral in the last 5 years. Some of them had more co-signers than McCarthy's latest piece of garbage.

Why is this, because you know the same thing will happen that happened in 1994?

You gun control nuts know this is exactly what will happen.

22. Another news article included this information:

http://www.kcoy.com/Global/story.asp?S=14072499

" 'Pretty much we were minding our own business in the field like we usually do,' says Stevie Lenoir one of the seven kids involved in the alleged incident, 'we moved a log that we didn't know the guy put there for a reason, to like keep dirt bikers and stuff like that out, and he got very upset about it so we put it back, and we told him we were sorry.'

...

"Neighbors say the site is an off-road playground for loud, four-wheel-drive trucks and dirt bikes day and night.

"They say the once pristine open space has been degraded over the years allowing storm runoff to turn into damaging flash floods during the rainy season and leaving a giant dust bowl the rest of the year.

" 'They don't realize what the tires do the erosion,' says Phil Taormina who likes to walk his dog in the open space, 'because once a tire puts a groove in the dirt, water runs down that groove and then it turns into a trench and it gets larger and larger.'

"Neighbors say their complaints have fallen on deaf ears forcing some to go to great length and expense to keep the vehicles out and keep the field safer for everyone else."

...

My opinion is that "neighbors" have determined what they want allowed in a field they do not own. As happens sometimes, one went off the deep end. The gun is incidental. It could have been screaming, waving his arms, throwing rocks... anything to get his point across to a bunch of kids he didn't want around. He may have even thought other residents would approve of his actions.

Gun control will not change this kind of "I am the boss of everyone" behavior.
