Just got back from shooting with my wife. We tried the newest indoor range in our area: ShootSmart.

Very nice range with a shooter's lounge and supplies. One fascinating thing that I noted was the lack of any NRA posters, leaflets or any other materials. None of the displayed prices mentioned discounts for NRA members, either. I was surprised by this because the other ranges in our area almost appear to be run by the NRA.

Ironically the men were outnumbered by the women at the range while we were there.

If you're in the area and want to shoot at a good indoor range, I'd recommend it. We'll definitely be back.

1. A range that I know REQUIRES NRA membership to join.
You have to join the club to use the range. NRA membership is part of joining the club. The place is always busy. They make an exception for people who are taking CHL classes at their club.

2. I found a municipal range...NO NRA...
And great safety officers and much less than the other ranges which require a membership or charge extra.

I was a NRA member for 5 years when I shot high power in competition in my teens...never again!

They were bad then...I can only imagine the propaganda they mail out now. Hmm...and even then they didn't say much about ACTUAL SHOOTING OR SAFETY!!! :dunce:

3. They seem to focus more on politics
I'm a Life Member of the NRA (joined about 28 years ago when I was a conservative) and they really don't talk much about safety in their magazine (American Rifleman), but they damned sure talk a lot of politics. They still act as if Obama is coming to get our guns. I guess they think it sells memberships.
