Police: 12-Year-Old Who 'Recklessly' Fired Gun Is Same Boy Who Shot Father In 2008
A 12-year-old seen firing a rifle at his home without supervision, leading to his mother's arrest Wednesday, is the same boy who shot his father in the neck three years ago, police said.

A neighbor saw the boy "recklessly firing a .22-caliber rifle without supervision" on the family's property on Jan. 18, according to police. The allegation led to the arrest of the mother, Alexandria Simonelli, 51, on charges of risk of injury to a minor and first-degree reckless endangerment, police said.

-----

On April 3, 2008, Simonelli and the boy's father, Joseph Simonelli Sr., were arrested after the boy accidentally shot the father in the neck.

After that shooting, police seized 62 rifles, shotguns and machine guns from the family's Wopowog Road home. They also confiscated 10 pistols, a flare gun, a grenade launcher, two crossbows and what they called a "massive" amount of ammunition, according to the 2008 arrest warrant.

This is one of those stories I wish I could post more. Wow - this is one wacky family that should not own guns!

1. machine guns?
If they are for real, something tells me they would not be NFA-34 compliant.

2. If I only had the energy...
From my family's base in Deep S E Texas to my home base in Wine and Weed Country, there is more of this stuff than one could believe.

We just had some teen-age tweaker who killed his grandfather because he did not want to pay rent (which had never been an issue, just a figment of the punk's imagination).

It's the world in which we live.

And it is pretty fucked up.

3. That took me a minute - you're saying you wish you could post more than 4 paragraphs,
not that you wished it happened more often. I'm slow today...

I don't object to the number of firearms, and "massive" can mean a lot of things, but it does sound like there are some issues that need to be corrected there..

Reproduction should not be an option for some people.

5. How have these people avoided prison this long?
If they have unlicensed grenade launchers and machine guns than they could have easily been sent to prison for decades.

6. Story from 2008 when kid was 9
Investigators said they found 20 firearms in the bedroom of Simonelli's son -- one was loaded and most of them were unsecured.

That discovery came in addition to another 62 rifles, shotguns and machine guns in the rest of the house, in an area that police said was locked.

Simonelli told the court all his guns were locked away.

When asked how the boy accessed the gun used to shoot Simonelli, Simonelli responded, "He broke into the cabinet."

Wife also mentioned at that time she was scared of husband - threatened to bury her & kid in backyard.
