Boy dies in Houston apartment shooting
Boy dies in Houston apartment shooting

HOUSTON — A dispute related to a possible car break-in led to an early Wednesday shooting at a Houston apartment complex that killed an 11-year-old boy sleeping in a bedroom and injured two others, according to police.

Killed in the 2 a.m. shooting was Rodney Palmer, Houston police spokesman Victor Senties said.
Authorities say a murder charge is pending against Gboweh George, 32, who is accused by investigators of firing a shotgun several times into an apartment where the boy was sleeping.
George was arrested at the scene, Senties said. Public records show that George also lived in the apartment complex.

Investigators believe the shooting was the result of some dispute or argument connected to a possible burglary of a vehicle that had occurred a few hours earlier at the complex, Senties said.

1. Unrec.
Anecdotal current events posting without any commentary tying it to the forum.

3. Unrec. Was there a point to this post or was it just an anecdotal current events story?

4. Kicked and Recommended
…as a reminder of the consequences to innocent people when disputes are settled using firearms, especially in the city.

5. No dispute was settled here....
this was a criminal action by an utter scum bag.

It has no relationship to legal gun ownership for legal self-defense. Trying to conflate the two issues does not help your cause.

9. The OP Article Says There Was a Dispute
Though I don't imagine it could really be described as "settled" at this point.

this was a criminal action

Yep.

by an utter scum bag.

Yes, but was he an utter scumbag before, or did he just "lose it"?

It has no relationship to legal gun ownership for legal self-defense.

The legal status of the shotgun and the purpose for which it was acquired are not stated in the
article. From what I read of the gun laws in Texas, no permit is required for a shotgun there,
so presumably it was legal. If the shooter had a criminal record the article would have said so,
so presumably he was a law-abiding gun owner until he started shooting.

Trying to conflate the two issues does not help your cause.

I made no effort to do so until you brought it up.

Unfortunately, the idea of settling disputes with guns is very much a part of our culture.
My "cause", if you could call it that, is that it be less so.

I'm not trying to take away anybody's guns, I just wish people wouldn't use them on each other so much.

6. Sounds like law-abiding shotgun owner goes berserk over something trivial. Little boy killed.

8. Unrec, no point being made
Come back and post when there is a conviction. You know the whole innocent until proven guilty thing.
