Panel OKs concealed carry for off-duty guards
SPRINGFIELD — Jail and prison guards could carry concealed weapons when they are off duty under legislation a House committee advanced today.

Sponsoring Rep. Brandon Phelps, D-Harrisburg, said correctional officers are often threatened by inmates and worry about their safety when they leave work.

"They just want to be able to defend themselves," Phelps said.

The Agriculture and Conservation Committee, a panel friendly to gun rights issues, sent the bill to the full House on 10-2 vote.

Off duty guards, pretty soon it will be everyone.

This one again sponsored by a Dem, and passed the committe vote 11-2. Had to have been a few D's in there.

1. Why would this require legislation?
Oh, wait - it's Illinois. Never mind.

6. What I was trying to say was......
Why does this even require legislation? This from my perspective as a resident of a "shall issue" state.

3. Yup, agreed but as the anti gun crowd likes to do
we'll take just a little at a time until they pass a CC law for everyone.

4. I'm not sure that's the best strategy. Once all the feel-good and politically-expedient
exceptions have been granted, it seems like it would be easier to say "No" to the rest of the proles...
