(Indiana) Residents should stand against gun bill
http://www.purdueexponent.org/opinion/article_ed904d0a-69c5-11e0-98a0-001a4bcf6878.html

Hoosiers need to rally against Senate Bill 292, a bill that would relax gun restrictions.

Senate Bill 292 would essentially prohibit local governments, libraries and public transportation systems from regulating guns in any way. This bill would also remove any prohibitions against guns in most municipal buildings are parks.

This bill would allow gun permit holders to carry their weapons into most public places without any restrictions.

"I wish the Legislature would spend more time making it harder for dangerous people to get guns rather than making it easier to have guns wherever you want," Paul Helmke, former Fort Wayne mayor and head of the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, said in a statement to the Associated Press.

1. Indiana is on the express elevator to Hell. This bill is just part of the fuel.
Anti-gay legislation. Anti-immigrant legislation. Defunding education at every level.

It's the typical laundry list of knuckledragger politics.

5. In my eyes Indiana is not ever a state
its a wasteland you have to drive through to get from Chicago to anywhere on the east coast.

15. Elitism - from a bankrupt city in a bankrupt state too!
That takes a stretch and I've lived in or near Chicago for over 60 years now.

4. There is nothing in the bill saying that private property owners must allow firearms
You are either ignorant or lying.

6. You FAIL. The bill is about public places, not private ones.

Remember the screaming that you side was doing last year about guns in national parks? That has been in effect for a year and nothing has happened. Several states have the same kind of law that IN is considering and it hasn't been a problem in any of them.

Interesting. You edited your post after I posted.

9. I'm really confused...
The article says:

"This bill would allow gun permit holders to carry their weapons into most public places without any restrictions."

Then they quote this guy:

"I wish the Legislature would spend more time making it harder for dangerous people to get guns rather than making it easier to have guns wherever you want," Paul Helmke, former Fort Wayne mayor and head of the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, said in a statement to the Associated Press.

What is the correlation between permit holders and 'dangerous people'?

Then there is:

"Relaxing gun restrictions will make it easier for people to buy and carry guns."

How does a law about where you can carry
have anything to do with making it easier for people to buy guns?

But at least they admitted that the law would be a helpful change:
"...we need to let our lawmakers know that relaxing gun laws would only help a small percentage of Indiana residents."

Hmmm....isnt't that what the state should be doing... helping people? Even a small percentage at a time is a good thing.

16. Fer Cripe's sake - It's Helmke, if his lips are moving - he's lying.
I actually think his paycheck depends on a certain number of lies per week that get published.

If he falls below quota they fire him and replace him with Donald Trump as their spokesperson.
