Opposing view: Restricting firearms makes us less safe...
Amanda Collins was a student at University of Nevada’s Reno campus in 2007. Even though she had a concealed carry permit, she was unarmed the night she was brutally raped by James Biela. She had left her gun at home because she was scared of what could happen to her if she was caught disobeying the laws prohibiting firearms on campus. Amanda feels certain she could have used her gun successfully that night. “I would have at some point during my rape been able to stop James Biela,”
--------
Anti-gun extremists always claim that allowing citizens to carry guns will result in random shootouts. But the truth is that these Chicken Little predictions never materialize.

Take El Paso, which was ranked by CQ Press as America’s safest city in 2010. El Paso is situated in a very pro-gun state where people can easily carry concealed firearms. Residents there live quite peacefully, despite being located across from Ciudad Juarez, Mexico— a town with very stringent gun control laws and one of the highest murder rates in the world.

Restricting firearms only makes us less safe. So let’s applaud the almost 7,000 Americans a day who use firearms in self-defense to deter criminals.

Just as in the Amanda Collins case, if the antis had their way, they would deny all of us the right to self defense..

2. or the need to publish in a paper or vote.....

Civil liberties are like that. Not everyone has to express a civil liberty in order for us to protect the liberty.

5. Seat belts and fire extinguishers are not designed to kill things either.

9. Blah blah blah blah
Doesn't matter what they are designed for, their are far more deaths daily in auto accidents. That means they aren't working right or being used right. You can have a higher impact in trying to stop the auto accident deaths.

12. When facts go against you, discount the facts. The subject is guns.
Out Middle East Wars have more relationship here than seat belts and automobiles.

22. Why does that matter?
Is there some moral precept you're hesitant to spit out?

Edited on Mon Apr-25-11 08:41 AM by Upton
to someone like Amanda Collins? Should a woman be deprived of the right to protect herself because of some gun control law?

Oh, and the only paranoia is coming from those who are actually scared of an inanimate object. I've got a novel idea, go after the criminals..and leave us law abiding gun owners alone..

7. So, we should make laws
against the ownership of private property based on what criminals might steal? Well, that makes a heck of a lot of sense :eyes:

Yeah, since criminals don't obey the law, lets punish those that do.....a backwards solution typical of the anti gun movement.

Btw, you didn't answer my question about Amanda Collins.

8. Your inability to make a single post without using insults is telling.
It tells that you have no credibility and should be dismissed and ignored.

16. Um, you're the one loosing posts. Why is that do you think? Perhaps
a bit of introspection would be useful.

10. You would rather call Amanda, in the OP paranoid
or a "gun nut" RC than allow her to carry a gun to defend herself from the most despicable thing that can happen to her.

Very classy of you.

17. If you extrapolate the argument, then we're safer if everyone has a gun.
It's not the guns that bother me, but the people carrying them.

18. Is E Pratt, son of Larry Pratt who started GOA? Read what Southern Poverty Law Center says about em

How come gunners are so tied to folks like this? Reason enough not to be associated with the such groups.

20. Got any bigoted pigs like guy who wrote editorial cited in OP (Pratt)? Or you just going post BS?
Edited on Mon Apr-25-11 10:09 PM by Hoyt

The only racist/bigots you'll find without a gun in public, are those who can't get a permit and are afraid of being arrested for toting (3 strikes you are out types).

Anyone want to comment on the Pratts and guns?

23. not that I know of
mostly the usual political corruption and a pedophile. Don Imus was able to get a CCW in NYC even though he admitted his booze and coke addictions on his show. That covers both racists and Bloomburg needing to clean up his own house.
Pratt is a bigot and a lunatic. What else is there to say?
The guilt by association game works both ways.
