Toddler shoots mom dead, boy's father tells Florida police
(CNN) -- A toddler shot and killed his mother, the boy's father told South Florida police, who say they will talk to the 2-1/2-year-old.

The father, who called 911, told police he was trying to take the firearm away from the child when it discharged.

The boy's mother -- Julia Bennett, 33 -- was shot once in the back and died from the injury, said Miramar Police spokeswoman Tania Rues.

"What we do know is that last Wednesday, shortly after 7 o'clock, we received a 911 call from a gentleman stating that his 2-1/2-year-old son accidentally shot his mother -- the boy's mother," Rues told HLN's Vinnie Politan.

I call bullshit. The mom just happened to be fatally shot while the dad was wrestling with the toddler, and the mom had her back to him the whole time?

Sounds like he murdered her in cold blood and is using his kid story as cover.

1. A 2 year old couldn't accidentally kill his mother with a knife.
And a father who killed his wife with a knife couldn't pretend his toddler had done it.

But we don't need better gun control laws. Of course we don't.

2. I'm glad you could ghoulishly exploit a crime to push your political views.
That's not at all reminiscent of Bush. :sarcasm:

3. This isn't a political view. It's a logical statement about guns
as a dangerous weapon that should be better controlled.

There are Republicans who believe in strong gun control, like Brady, and Democrats who don't. It has nothing to do with politics.

Tragedies like this could be avoided if guns weren't so omnipresent in our society.

4. True, but how do we get from here to there?
What would you suggest be done to make guns less "omnipresent" in society?

Every time a new gun control law is passed, people rush out and buy lots more guns.

Short of repealing the Second Amendment, isn't any restrictive effort pretty much counter-productive?

6. Really? How so?
Because the prevailing theory being that the father actually murdered the mother, and made up the story about the toddler, what new laws would you suggest would eliminate the problem of murder?
