Newt Gingrich hits Barack Obama as anti-gun at NRA meeting

Newt Gingrich accused President Barack Obama Friday of appointing anti-gun judges, supporting anti-gun treaties and pushing the wrong kinds of gun-related prosecutions.

“In every possible way, the Obama administration is the most consistently anti-gun administration and anti-Second Amendment administration that we have ever seen,” the former House Speaker said with characteristic bombast.

He spoke to thousands of energetic gun owners in a ballroom at the National Rifle Association’s annual meeting here, one of several presidential hopefuls who was set to address the gun enthusiasts.

Gingrich said the fight over gun control has shifted from the legislature to the executive and judicial branch.

5. That's why the Democratic Party needs to change its position on gun control ...

and Obama needs to say that he will not sign any bills into law such as another assault weapons ban or one that attempts to register, ban or confiscate existing firearms. He could say the he will work with the NRA to improve existing laws and will enforce those laws.

While he would lose the support of some of the far left wing of the party he could attract many gun owners who are single issue voters because of their considerable investment of money and time in a hobby they love.

In fact this would not be an extreme departure from his current position as he has not, since he became President, advocated any draconian gun laws. In fact he signed a bill into law that allowed concealed carry in national parks.

Of course many will say that I am wrong but I would advise them to compare the membership of the NRA to the membership of the Brady Campaign and also consider that at least 40 million people own firearms in the United States and possibly 10 million have concealed carry permits.
