Feds Tracking Gun Purchases (Ammoland.com poutrage)
http://www.ammoland.com/2011/05/05/feds-tracking-gun-purchases/

The ATF is at it again and this time, it’s not just shotguns they’re after.

The new Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (BATFE) “rule” would require gun stores to report to the federal government the names of people who purchase more than one rifle in a week.

<snip>

The new BATFE rule change has been in place since January. It was trumpeted as a supposed “solution” to the problem with Mexican gun runners on the Southern border, but common sense tells us otherwise.

The BATFE’s exact rule states that anyone who purchases more than one rifle that is semi-automatic, larger than .22 caliber, and capable of using detachable magazines within five business days of each other, must be reported.

<more>

Finally, a common sense solution to Mexican Cartel gun running

yup

Gun controll supporters will not say so much as a peep when law enforcement aids the bad guys.

Kind of makes any sound and fury coming from them significant of...nothing.

19. Yep. He just doesn't want to admit it, because it exposed the authoritarian nature of his beliefs.
When you endorse giving up your rights of privacy, of freedom from unreasonable search and seizure, from state surveillance and data mining, etcetera, it really does become Republicanism with a slightly different color. Pro-choice neo-fascism instead of pro-life.

Oh, the GOP/NRA made the whistleblowers in ATF tattle?

Is that your position?

I'm sure that will be comforting to the family of brian terry - the BP agent who was killed with a rifle ATF let walk.

Why don't you contact them and let them know, K?

14. I oppose it too.
And so do many Americans.

"They aid and abet the Mexican Cartel and criminal GOP/NRA gun dealers"

Bwahahaha.

You claim nra/gop aid Mexican Cartel by opposing a rule in America out of one side of your mouth, and spew nothing but high quantities of silence out the other when ATF aids cartells in a more direct way.

Says about all that needs saying, right there.

That means so much coming from a supporter of the lieing, republican (edit:moran) led, republican founded) batty bunch.

Odd, they aren't saying so much as a peep about the guns ATF let walk or the death of BPA terry, either.

Go figure :eyes:

22. I don't have a problem with it.
I don't have a problem with a flag getting raised for a little extra scrutiny if someone buys more than one rifle in a week.

I am lucky if I get to buy a new firearm every 3-5 years. I can't imagine there are that many people out there with the disposable income to buy multiple rifles in a week, unless they are up to no good.

25. I don't have a problem
with it either. But the should do it legaly by amending the GCA of 68. As it stands now the gun control act is where the authority is
derived to make gun dealers report the multiple sales of handguns. the law does not allow for the multiple reporting of long gun sales.
They are attempting to skirt the law and demand these multiple gun sale reports by administrative diktat.

29. Yeah, it's that executive fiat thing that sticks in my craw
Well, that and the low number of firearms needed to trigger a report. Two long guns in five business days? I'm a bit leery that that's going to generate so many reports that the ATF will cause itself to be snowed under, and they'll never extract any actionable intelligence from them in time.

When I had a little extra cash, I sometimes bought two or three guns at a time.

31. I have a C&R license and sometimes purchase 3-5 rifles at a time
I will keep the best 3 to hand down to my 3 sons when I die and I sell the 2 that are of lesser quality. They are rifles that are 50+ years old which makes them collectables. I am not arming a cartel or a bunch of gang bangers so it is none of the ATFs business what I am buying.
