Now that we've done the political compass... |
|
Lets do the Libertarian Purity Test. Let's see how libertarian we really are. I doubt many of us will score very high. http://www.bcaplan.com/cgi/purity.cgi I'm going to take it and post my results after lunch. Have at it.

"Your libertarian credentials are obvious. Doubtlessly you will become more extreme as time goes on."
I just couldn't accept eliminating all anti-discrimination laws, safety regulations, licensing of doctors, etc.

Wackenhut has worked out SO well with prisons. :eyes:
Geeez, privitization is always the answer, isn't it? Yep, outsourcing service and supply has been just great in Iraq, huh? And we can always trust large corps like Halliburton to do the right thing - particularly when we do away with the regulartory agencies.
Hell, lets eliminate the government totally (I'll eliminate the State for 5 points, Wink).

The only difference between an ordinary right wing shitheel and a libertarian is that a libertarian has a modem.

I reported the score that cockamamie test assigned, which was well to the left.
"Does that make you a right wing shitheel with a modem? " No, that would be the sort of humhole that posts crap from sites like "MensNews Daily" and expects it to be taken seriously.

You use that term frequently and to little effect, what does it mean? Well, I am pleased that penis references have largely fallen by the wayside. Please, take my hand, as we continue the march towards civilised discussion.

I'm shocked. I got an 76! This is unbelievable. I'm going to take it again later, when I'm not feeling so rebellious. I wonder if my score will change.
edit to correct score and for:
It says that I am a Medium Core libertarian.

though the libertarian poll we just looked at largely focused on econ. I had a little more faith in the politcal compass as a valid (relatively speaking) instrument. Particularly since I scored similar several months ago.
Another thing that turned me off on the Lib quiz was the RW-ish yes or no, black or white response choices.

13. I think you are correct. |

The political compass poll was more accurate, in that you could have two levels of afreement or disagreement. On many of the "purity test" items, I found myself thinking, "I kind of agree with this, but think that XXXX should apply too." I wanted a middle type of vote, if you inderstand what I am saying.

21. Not much of a survey maker |
|
is he, from a guy who spends his days making surveys. :)
I loved this question:
The lesser of two evils is better than none at all.
none what? Leave many open-ended questions hanging around much?
Oh, but wait, here is the Nadarish response:
"The lesser of two evils is better than none at all." In a presidential election, for example, if you settle for the second-worst evil, and the worst evil dies -- aren't you now stuck with the worst evil? Of all the justifications for evil, this is just about the most absurd.
Guess I should just drop out and wait for utopia. That's effective.

The lesser of two evils is better than no evil at all.
I just enjoyed the little descriptions for each score.
"You're a state-worshipping authoritarian; you probably vote Democrat or Republican along strict party lines." Hahah.
This one is even better:
"You would most likely shove your neighbors into ovens if the authorities told you to!"

22. I think the test misinterpreted me ;) |
|
I mean, I think my reasons for recommending that the US get the hell out of the rest of the world are maybe a little different from what they were going for, f'r instance.
"16-30 points: You are a soft-core libertarian. With effort, you may harden and become pure."
Darn, one point less and I would have been:
"6-15 points: You are starting to have libertarian leanings. Explore them."
But that's only because they decided to define what I think as "libertarian". I don't, not by their definition.
The political compass's use of the word "libertarian" was quite different, of course; it referred to matters of true personal autonomy, and true personal autonomy really doesn't involve abolishing health and safety regulations and minimum wages and anti-discrimination laws; quite the contrary.
The word has just been co-opted and corrupted by right-wing shitheels like those folks. ;)
